LIEL'S LEAVING

Liel Abada poised to quit Celtic as winger closes in on mega money transfer – and he’ll link up with Rangers hero

He'll be teammates with an old rival at his new home

LIEL ABADA is poised to quit Celtic for MLS side Charlotte in an £8million deal.

The Hoops winger has had personal issues at Parkhead since the Israel-Palestine conflict began, leading to him sitting out several games.

Boss Brendan Rodgers admitted recently there was a possibility Abada, who only signed a four year deal in September, could leave.

Now SunSport understands Charlotte have emerged as the winger’s main suitor and are confident a deal will be done.

Abada last featured as a sub in the Hoops 2-1 win at Hibs on February 24.

And Rodgers, speaking last month, revealed he had empathy for the situation his player was in.

He said: "I'm really empathetic towards the issue that he has.

"It's more than football, it's at a human level and we have to respect that.

"He's training, he's working but as I said it's all about the mind and if you're not quite right or ready then I can't take any risk with him and protect the squad as well.

"People can talk about what's going on there and then forget about it but that's the reality for him - that's his life.

"Every day and night, families in a war. So it's a really tough situation for him and on a human level I have empathy for him.

“It's my job and we'll do that as I have with a number of players before, take the human aspect, and look after him.

Jeremie Frimpong told driver 'I don't want to go' when he was set to sign for Celtic but was persuaded to join and made club millions

“When he's ready, if he's ever ready, he'll give us everything.

"Might he have to look for a move or a loan? It's a possibility, we'll see. We'll work together on it."

The move will see the winger team up with ex-Rangers star Scott Arfield.

The Canada international was one of several key Ibrox departures at the end of last summer and he was quickly snapped up by Charlotte on a free.

The duo faced off in several Old Firm showdowns but will now by teammates in the MLS.
