This stunning little axolotl alebrije is crafted by Oaxacan woodcarvers Magaly Fuentes and her husband Jose Calvo, perfect for any admirer of the Mexican walking fish. Axolotls are, in fact, salamanders, and are unfortunately listed as critically endangered. In order to help restore the species, Mexico has taken steps to protect potential habitats and create shelters specifically for axolotls. Magaly has adorned this ajolote with exquisite Zapotec fretwork.
