Hierbas perennes. Hojas basales y caulinares pinnatisectas y pubescentes. Su raíz napiforme expulsa, al ser cortada, un látex de color blanco. Flores amarillas dispuestas en umbelas. Frutos alados. Puede alcanzar 1,5 m. de altura. Florece de mayo a julio.
