Perspectives of Avelino Pi

“Sport is like life”, says Avelino Pi. It is for this reason that, throughout his extensive career as a photographer, he has afforded special attention to the wealth of emotions that sport evokes.

The work of Avelino Pi is a rich tapestry of the feelings aroused by competition and, in turn, it also reflects the hustle and bustle of the background, of the spectators, of the journalists, of the stadiums… Each and every facet of sport has a place in the photographs of Avelino Pi.

This exhibition features some twenty photographs that seek to encapsulate the Olympic experience: woman and men who live and breathe sport, cities that pulsate with Olympic events, and athletes and journalists that work with great zeal. Forever attuned to nuances and to human detail, both in and off the field of competition. Striking images of the magnificent celebration of sport, the Olympic Games.

Avelino Pi (Barcelona, 1933) has photographed eight editions of the Olympic Games, from Munich to Athens, as well as countless competitions of sports disciplines of all kinds. From 1981 to 1985, during the early years of J. A. Samaranch’s presidency, he worked as an official photographer for the International Olympic Committee.
