💥 The continual and significant increases in demand (consumption) of pistachios mirror the positive results of several well-known ag economists and that of the study I had commissioned mid-2023 with my former employer. Yes production is increasing, yet overwhelming consumption is keeping supply down. The world has a deep hunger for pistachios. 💚 This is fundamentally unlike commodity crops (grains, cotton), in that an equilibrium point has yet to be found. As finite resources of ground, water, and growing climate greatly limit the number of available orchard acres, it may be that 100% utilization of these resources does not satisfy global demand at all, ever. Pistachios simply cannot be marketed the same, nor analyzed by lending institutions the same.
"February was another strong shipping month with an over 48% increase over last year. Year to date the industry is about 65% ahead of last year.
Going forward we do not see any reason for prices to moderate and in fact, we expect prices may increase as we look to a 2024 crop estimated to be in the 1.1B to 1.2B range."
