Twenty years of the Lamborghini Gallardo. The iconic “baby Lambo” debuted in 2003, resulting from an idea that dates back to the early 1970s, when Ferruccio Lamborghini began to imagine the benefits of a Lamborghini smaller in size. From there, in 1987, the L140 project was born to create a more compact Lamborghini – a mission that would ultimately be accomplished with the Gallardo.

The path toward the Gallardo officially began in 1998, when the idea of installing a 10-cylinder engine was revisited to create something never seen before in a Lamborghini car. The engine installed on the first Gallardo was a 5-liter, 10-cylinder V90 DOHC with four valves that delivered an output of 500 HP for a state-of-the-art creation.
The extraordinary vehicle could also boast a 6-speed gearbox equipped with latest-generation double- and triple-cone synchronizers and an all-aluminum structural chassis.

The design of the Lamborghini Gallardo is also an icon in and of itself. The design project began in 2000, resulting in the unique combination of formal Lamborghini attributes into an individual unit. The strong aeronautics influence the designers drew inspiration from gave birth to a car that became legendary for its compact athleticism.

Many editions of the Lamborghini Gallardo roared out of Sant’Agata Bolognese between 2003 and 2013 when the last Gallardo left the production line – the car will always be remembered for the impressive way it combined performance with drivability and reliability with everyday practicality. A true gem of a model whose 20th anniversary Lamborghini wants to take a moment and celebrate today.

Over the span of ten years, the Lamborghini Gallardo was produced in a total of 14,022 units and sold in 45 countries. These numbers truly put the Gallardo into the hall of fame as one of the most highly-rated super sports cars in automotive history.
