‘N-Word Pass’ stickers found at North Star, principal says

Lincoln Public Schools tells Channel 8 Eyewitness News that students at North Star High School are facing “appropriate” consequences after a small number of racially offensive stickers were found at the school.

LPS said a student had distributed stickers saying “The N-Word Pass” with pictures of former president Barack Obama on them. The stickers were distributed before school to a “limited number” of the student’s friends, North Star Principal Ryan Zabawa said in a letter to families.

The letter said the stickers were confiscated.

The stickers are part of a national trend or “meme” circulating social media. It is not directly connected to LPS in anyway, a spokesman said.

The letter from Principal Zabawa said a concerned citizen alerted school officials about a social media post involving the stickers.

“I want to assure you that this type of material will not be tolerated in our school, and does not reflect our values and mission at North Star,” he said.

Anyone with questions should contact the school, the letter said.

Channel 8 talked to one parent at North Star Thursday afternoon.  She said she thought it was “horrible” and that she couldn’t believe it was happening at her kid’s school.
