Jennifer Lopez's 'This Is Me Now' Manicure Is Inspired by Her Latinx Heritage

It's her most personal nail look yet.

Jennifer Lopez’s love of nude manicures is pretty much ingrained at this point. If you name a slight variation or finish a nude nail comes in, chances are, she’s tried it more than once. “Rich Girl Nude,” champagne shimmer, French tips, and gold embellishments are all various ways she has worn the classic look. However, one of her most recent looks is, without a doubt, the most maximalist yet.

A few weeks ago, JLo released her highly-anticipated film, This Is Me Now…: A Love Storywhich was ripe with references to her storied career and love life. Think full musical dance numbers inside factories, celebrity appearances by Keke Palmer and Kim Petras, and a plethora of nude nails to ogle at. Though, of them all, including a very Leo take on the nail look, our favorite might be the one that took inspiration from her Latinx heritage.

Created by her go-to nail artist, Tom Bachik, each of the nails starts with, you guessed it, a glossy nude base. Well, most of them, anyway. Of her ten nails, eight of them started with a nude hue, only a shade or two lighter than her skin tone—created with Après Forgotten Film and Vintage Carnation ($15), to be exact. However, on two of the nails where the embellishments on top were stronger, the look started with a completely transparent and glossy bed.

Then, after the base, the fun started. Though each nail was different in how it was decorated, each had decals and stickers honoring different parts of her Latinidad, as well as some classically glamorous sparkles and stars.

The most on theme of them all? Her “Latina” nail. On her middle finger, on top of the nude base, Bachik added the identity vertically—from base to tip—in dark black, gothic lettering. Also, of course, adding some small, various rhinestones in between the letters.

One of J Lo’s ring fingers was decorated with a detailed, multi-colored Virgin de Guadalupe. Stuck to the center of the nail, the religious figure wore a red garment and a blue headdress and was surrounded by flowers and light. Also, like the first nail, with some blingy additions.

On a handful of other nails, Bachik added some religious imagery like golden and black crosses. Then, one nail was covered in a hyper-realistic gold rosary and another in a bright red heart. Nail piercings, even more floral stickers, and a glossy top coat finished off the look, and it was ready for the big screen.
