The culmination of Dr. Roger Friedman’s 35-year-plus career was when his Buckeye Allergy clinic merged with Ohio ENT & Allergy Physicians in 2015. The merger produced one practice with five allergy specialists and 32 ear, nose and throat physicians.

“Two groups came together to really help patients and produce cost-effective value medicine,” he said. “I think groups merging into bigger groups is the wave of the future – for economics and for better practice.”

Even before the merger, Friedman was widely regarded by peers as the outstanding allergist in Central Ohio, said Dr. Darryl Robbins, a pediatrician. Friedman enjoys learning about the newest techniques and innovations and enjoys teaching others.

“Over the past 35 years, I’ve known Dr. Friedman to be thorough and effective in his care of patients, employing the most up-to-date clinical knowledge base,” Robbins wrote in nominating his colleague for this award. “He is an excellent communicator and collaborator with the families of his patients and they adore him. His outstanding care helps alleviate his patients’ symptoms and the concerns of their families.”

Friedman’s professional achievements speak for themselves, wrote Dr. Rick Petrella of Mid-Ohio Pediatrics. Among those accomplishments: Friedman has trained more than 300 residents and helped establish the allergy fellowship at Ohio State University and Nationwide Children’s Hospital; he was named Best Allergist by Columbus Monthly multiple times, was on the list of Best Doctors in America several times, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award by Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 2007.

“I frequently turn to Roger when I have questions about managing my patients,” Petrella wrote. “He is readily available and always willing to help. It is reassuring to me knowing that I can refer my patients to Roger and know they will always receive excellent care. My patients thank me for recommending him.”
