From its very invention, the printing press has been considered one of the pillars of the creation and diffusion of knowledge in early modern Europe. This context serves as the setting for the text studied here, an unpublished Art of Printing, written in the 17th century by a well-known printer. The purpose of this work, which was dedicated to the city of Valencia, which was surely the author’s birthplace, was to solicit greater royal support for printing, whose benefits to all branches of knowledge in Spain it details. This text belongs to the genre of reformist petitions so characteristic of this period, and offers us a singular vision of printing history from its origins, with special emphasis on developments in Valencia.

From St. George's Day to Martinmas2005 •
This article explores the tentative theories of Seán Ó Súilleabháin regarding the origin of certain legends connected to the Feast of St. Martin in Ireland. Ó Súilleabháin's theory proposed links with near-eastern mythology, and narratives concerning Tammuz/Dumuzi, the Muslim figure of El-Khadir, and St. George, and these links are critically examined by the author. The article also examines links between the figures of Ss. George and Martin, and their role in the agricultural year.

Towards a Marxist Theory of Mediation: Contributions from Ibero-America to the Study of Digital Communication2020 •
This paper presents and articulates for the first time the concept of mediation as theorised by three key scholars of the Ibero-American space, namely Manuel Martín-Serrano, Luis Martín-Santos, and Jesús Martín-Barbero. This article shows that their under-standings of mediation are valuable for the study of digital communication, particularly for identifying criteria that facilitate the sublation of communicative capitalism into communicative socialism. The three scholars have placed the concept of mediation at the centre of their intellectual production with the aim of breaking with mechanical Marxism, but provide differing conceptualisations and have scarcely engaged in a dialogue of knowledges. This article will articulate the complementarity of Martín-Serrano's Marxist socio-historical analysis of communication, Martín-Barbero's Latin American cultural studies, and Martín-Santos's phe-nomenological theorisation of mediation as the key concept of Marxist epistemology.
