GALENA, Ill. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team maintained its strangle hold on the No. 8 spot at the Midwest Regional Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals — coming off an opening-round 315 — added a second-round 317 to maintain the eighth spot with a 632 total at the Midwest Region Classic, hosted by Benedictine.
Joe Abdo (Edina, Minn.), who opened the 36-hole event with a three-over-par 75, followed up with a four-over 76 for a 151 36-hole total to pace the Cardinals.
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) added a 78 to his opening round 76 for a 154 showing, while
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn. / 82-78—160),
Alex Kren (Neilsville, Wis. / 82-85—167) and
Tyler Dove (Hastings, Minn. / 82-86 168) rounded out the Cardinal's lineup.
Carthage captured the team title finishing with a 600 total (300-300), while UW-Superior was second (298-311—609), Wheaton (309-308—609), Edgewood (309-306—615) and Lake Forest (310-309—619) rounded out the top five.
Carthage's Jordan Knutson earned medalist honors, shooting a 141—70-71 for a two-shot win over Lakeland's Austin Hansen (71-72—143).
The Cardinals are back in action next Friday and Saturday, heading to The Jewel in Lake City, Minn., for the inaugural Saint Mary's Invitational.
