Emilio Morenatti

Emilio Morenatti is an award-winning photojournalist for the Associated Press. He is based in Barcelona, Spain.

Morenatti has visited more than 60 countries in more than 30 years of working as a photojournalist. He has covered history-shaping events and remained for years in various countries, including Afghanistan, Palestinian territories and Gaza, Israel, and Pakistan.

His work has been recognized with two Pulitzer Prizes: in 2021, in the Feature Photography category, for taking viewers into the lives of the elderly in Spain struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic; and in 2023, in the Breaking News Photography category, for documenting atrocities faced by Ukrainians during the Russian invasion.

In 2009, he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his coverage of the war in Afghanistan.

Other honors include: three World Press Photo awards, Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Association, six National Headliner Awards, the Oliver S. Gramling Journalism Award, and the Overseas Press Club Award.

With a master's degree in photojournalism and documentary photography from the University of the Arts London, Morenatti runs the photography department for the Associated Press in Spain and Portugal.
