Nashville-Based Slim & Husky’s Becomes First Black-Owned Restaurant on Broadway

Music City’s own Slim + Husky’s Pizza Beeria becomes the first black-owned restaurant on Nashville’s most popular thoroughfare, with its grand opening at Fifth + Broadway on Thursday, March 4.

Co-founded by Nashville natives Clint Gray, Derrick Moore, and Emanuel Reed in 2017, hip-hop-inspired Slim + Husky’s is a fast-casual gourmet pizza joint with locations in Nashville, Atlanta, Sacramento, and Memphis. The co-founders are partnering with Tennessee Titan Kenny Vaccaro, who joins the Slim + Husky’s team as an investor in the new Fifth + Broadway location (the eighth for the Nashville-based brand, located at 5056 Broadway Place).

One of the featured restaurants in downtown’s new Fifth + Broadway development (not inside Assembly Food Hall, also opening March 4), the Broadway spot will serve the same menu of Slim + Husky staples: customizable pizzas, salads, and unique cinnamon rolls made with locally sourced ingredients.

Craft cocktails will be on tap, and they’ll add frozen alcoholic drinks and local beers in the coming weeks. In addition to enjoying Slim + Husky’s award-winning pizza, customers can listen to live performances by local musicians and peruse artwork showcased by Tennessee artists DoughJoe, Bexclusives, Trigger, Gallery Symf, X Payne, LeXander Bryant, YOuNique, Walter Louis Smith II, and Santiago Ortiz-Piazuelo.

Grand opening festivities will include live music performances, featured artwork from local artists, and a 50%-off promo for MNPS teachers and administrators.

The three Nashville natives have always aimed “to invigorate less touched areas of the community through employment opportunities and accessible dining experiences, including locally brewed craft beer and innovative pizza creations.” When the owners aren’t perfecting their product, they are hosting community events and participating in speaking engagements at local schools, nonprofits, small businesses, and organizations.

In addition to dine-in and carry-out, delivery options are available through Uber Eats, Postmates, Grubhub, and DoorDash. Slim + Husky’s encourages all customers to order carry-out through the Slim + Husky’s mobile app or www.slimandhuskys.com.

In keeping with the Metro Public Health Department’s COVID-19 mandates, Slim + Husky’s current hours of operation are Sunday thru Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday/Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The restaurant plans to extend its late-night hours in the near future. Customers and staff will be required to wear masks (except when actively eating or drinking) and to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
