Is their food halal? Typically lamb dishes are halal because lamb providers are typically halal certified - is that the case here?

came for their grand opening in midtown on 2/28/24 and was impressed by how quick they were serving everyone. restaurant and workers were clearly organized enough to handle such a large amount of people so early in the morning.
loved the layout, so much space for indoor seating and even had tables to stand while eating.
I ordered the mt. qi pork noodles, mild. absolutely blown away by how chewy these noodles were. the pork belly was perfectly cooked and paired so well with the cabbage. glad i chose mild bc these were still pretty spicy and flavorful.
i've never had hand pulled noodles before, so I'm glad I got to try for free during the opening! would definitely get again or try the other dishes, these bowls are PACKED for $11-$13 each.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Apr 19, 2024Updated review6 check-ins
Jason is right, I keep coming back. After a few more lamb burgers I went for the lamb noodles again. Flavors were sorted out this time with proper doses of chili oil and sauce. Names are now called out with the orders over speakers now, so that's another upgrade, though I've started entering my phone at the end of the ordering process at the kiosk to get the order number just in case.
All I can say is, my last noodle order has less meat (most scraps too) so if nothing else the variability is uncomfortable. It's definitely better if you come earlier.
I'm back yet again for lamb burgers. Was going to leave this last update unposted but after watching them plate lamb noodles and then getting my latest burger today, I have two conclusions: you should come early to beat the lunch rush to get proper servings, and the burger is still a better option for meat to carb ratios. My burger was stuffed and the noodles plates were generously portioned.
Too random. You never know what you're getting. I had a coworker order 2 lamb burgers at the same time. One was full of meat and another was filled with scraps. Fortunately at 7 bucks it's not exactly a huge risk but again it's just uncomfortable.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Response to latest review:
Andy, looks like you are back for more, isn't it great to have that continuity? Yes, we are not a new business, especially on this block, so renewing our existing listing makes the most sense.
All lamb's seasoning packs are pre-portioned by our team. When eating the noodles, be sure to eat from the bottom, as sauce trickles downwards. As for lamb, it sounds like you very much enjoy the lamb as it doesn't appear enough, even with our generous portioning (and pricing, $14 in Midtown, for lamb, for noodles made to order!).
Lunch is indeed busy. Whenever someone in seating area gets up, another person sits right down and eats, which makes it extra challenging to clean the tables during the rush. Our staff average 5-10 minutes each order during this period of time, and no other place can match this given the amount of hands-on work involved with each noodle dish, and the level of traffic we receive.
Finally, for your comment about the pickup calling: names are easy to call for staff that are comfortable with calling out English names, but there are also staff that only speak Chinese, so numbers would be easier for them. Working with the limitations of the POS system, you are still able to receive a text receipt with your receipt number for reference as well.
Thank you.

Please submit more information such as order number, time, date at xianfoods.com/contact so we correct any action if there was anything done incorrectly, as our noodles are always to be pulled to order, with pre-pulling only permissible when it is a meal rush period when orders will keep coming in. Our prices have increased due to increased costs and our committment to providing living wages for our staff. Please read here: http://www.xianfoods.com/jan2017openletter.pdf.Mar 7, 2024Previous reviewLooks like they repurposed the prior location's Yelp listing. Fair play to them.
I've visited this new location a couple of times now. The food is fine but seems milder than I remember. My lamb noodles needed some salt but then my last bite was weird salty. Perhaps an issue with the prep and mixing. Meat to carb ratio is also still too low for my liking. I wish there was an option for extra meat.
It's definitely busier but maybe it's an issue with their production speeds as they seem to be backed up during lunch.
My biggest complaint is their ordering/pickup system. If you use a kiosk and don't give them your email or phone number then you don't get an order number or the kitchen/counter. They have signs that say that they will call your name but they only call out numbers. This is chaos.
There are some tables with fixed stools in the back. Ambience is minimal and there's no one cleaning so you'll have to wipe things down yourself.
I'll be back but likely only for the lamb burger. Either that or I season a noodle order for myself.May 31, 2017Previous reviewNormally good. However, I just saw noodles being pre-pulled. My own noodles also somehow ended up too soft and stuck together. Maybe an off-day but it was odd considering it was not during the lunch rush.
They're also pretty stingy with the lamb meat in general, so when the noodles are off, it makes for a very disappointing meal when you consider how much the prices have climbed now. - Faizal A.Brooklyn, NY3191710Apr 6, 2024
Taste: great flavors, personally a little too spicy and oily, but some people would appreciate the spice more than me. I would recommend the beef noodles over the lamb cumin noodles.
Value: good amount of food for what you pay for considering the area. Around $13 per bowl, you get a hefty sum of food, chewy bouncy boodles, and flavors that'll numb your mouth and knock your socks off.
I'd definitely go back to Xi'an, I love the story behind the team and the franchiseHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Samuel S.Swedesboro, NJ170231Mar 4, 2024
Restaurant (kitchen and eating areas) is dirty, staff are unfriendly, and the food is mediocre. I also got sick shortly after eating this food.
Decide for yourself whether the food I have photographed looks safe or remotely appetizing. I wouldn't.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

The composition of the photo and lighting can certainly be better!

I come to nyc once every few years and always make sure I visit this spot. I live in the home town of Asian food mecca in California but this place is always on par if not better in many respects to those restaurants. Their noodles are just so fresh and tasty, despite not being cut. I had forgotten about that last fact and so sharing with anyone else made me look quite "not sexy" trying to pull the noodles apart. Worth trying if you are in the area.

Different from all the other cookie cutter Chinese restaurants in NY.
The freshly made fat noodles are delicious. The spice may be too much for some people. Been here twice and plan on returning.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 141104210Apr 12, 2024
This revisit is for nostalgia reasons. When I lived in NYC for several years I ate at Xian's frequently. Since then I moved to CA where this chain doesn't reach (I think NYC and local surrounding area. There's Xian cuisine in the Bay Area, but never tasted the same. Finally I get to come back and immediately went to get the Liang Pi. It was just as oily and spicy as I remembered it. I'd make less spicy (you can pick spice level) and more salt the next time but grateful to relive this memory!

Flavor noodle dishes. Very fulfilling and satisfying. Broth was great but the stir fry was better

It was my first time here and it was good but not anything special that you wouldn't be able to find elsewhere. I got the spicy and tingly beef muscle hand-ripped noodles and the noodles were definitely fresh but I have definitely had better broth and more tender beef.

BE AWARE THAT THEY DO ACCEPT CREDIT CARD BUT NOT AMERICAN EXPRESS!!!
I happened to try their spicy beef noodle and cold noodle and oh man!!! The noodles were dancing in my mouth!! Kudos to noodles!! I've tried many hand pulled noodle places but didn't get much impression until this place! It is chewy and YOU CAN TELL THIS IS HAND PULLED NOODLE!! I tried spicy level 2&3. I would say if you can't do spicy 2 will be enough. 3 could be too spicy for you.
It is also self-serving and very much like street food vibe inside so you can sit wherever and leave whenever. It is a trendy hip place with pretty good price! Definitely recommendHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
