El Abajeño Minerva

Found this place after an intense google and yelp search. It had great reviews and the food looked well presented in pictures. So we gave it a shot. Upon arrival we were greeted and seated. The table next to us hogged the mariachi the entire two hours we were there, and I guess they saved us money. But after a while they became sloppy and no one told them anything. The customer service at our table was fair, and we had to wait a long time to get anything we needed. Mind you, there were only about 4 parties in the entire restaurant. I found most dishes to be pretty basic, and nothing out of the ordinary. We ordered taquitos fritos, torta ahogada, pollo en chipotle, and the queso frito, a flan, and many many drinks. Nothing stood out above average food. The queso was probably the highlight of the meal. Also, my cousin had visited for breakfast early in the week and had then been accommodated with a flan without any caramel or cajeta. But when she tried to order the same this time, they said it was impossible since the flans come prepackaged. They even brought a packaged slice to show her. Makes you wonder how they made it happen previously. Would I go again? No.

If you're looking for for authentic Mexican food that has good quality, this is the place to be. The ambiance is very homie, with beautiful colorful colors. It has an outside patio in the middle of the place with a beautiful fountain decorating it. As soon as you sit, you're welcomed with chips, salsa, carrot salad and chile.

Now a little on the negative side, they do take a very long time bringing your food. We waited 45 minutes for it.

I tried the Savana Steak, and it was delicious. It comes with beans and cheese on top of the steak. To drink I had their horchata, it was warm but after asking for ice cubes it was much better.

Horrible service don't step foot in this place. Mediocre food, yes they have the mariachi and the folkloric dance but that doesn't not balance it with the bad service that we received. The food took forever to come and our waiter disappeared most of the time. Then the rain came and water invaded the whole restaurant. After I went to Cabana and saw the the quality of service and quality of food was expecting something better from this place.

I went here based on a friend's recommendation and so glad I did. I saw some other reviews where the service was not good, but my service was excellent. Also, the good was very good mostly because I just love Mexican baked cheese, wow El Abajeño does it right!!!! Asked them for a tequila suggestion (they ha be an incredible section) and they were more than happy t give some recommendations. I would definitely recommend and will return next time I am here!

HAVE AGAIN: the fillet mignon was very good with potatoes, mushrooms and vegetables. Attractive interior.
