I downloaded Yelp JUST to leave this review. It was that bad.
What a TERRIBLE experience! The wait staff frequently forgot about us. We had to constantly ask for things we should have been offered (like a napkin for example). Our chef refused to smile and felt thrown because we asked for no bacon with my Husband's vegetarian meal. (Side note- vegetarian option is a salad grilled up. Really? Grilled iceberg lettuce? ) I was given only half of the shrimp I should have received for a shrimp meal and they had to have someone bring him more because he "miscounted". No flame. No flare. No anything from this guy. They gave and charged us for hot & spicy though although we did not ask for any or order any-- but somehow we still had to pay for it. Oh! And also, when the chef wiped the hot top at the end, he splashed it all over me!! It burned. No apology or acknowledgment.
On my way out, I told the manager how terrible it was. He said "thanks for telling me." And that was it. We're so done. When you save to go to a place like this, it's extremely disappointing and frankly a waste of our hard earned money. Just chose somewhere else. Trust me.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - 2124742542Mar 2, 2023
Fresno's food scene is popping, but then, there are old school gems like Edo-Ya.
Reservations and wait time: 3/5 I made reservations for 5 girls for 6:30 the day before. My sweet ladies I met through Yelp, Lila, Lorraine, Chiquita and Steffie. They said they gave a 10 minute grace period. 3 of our friends showed up on time. Me and our other friend ran late. We were about 20 minutes late. They told the 60% of our party that was there that if we didn't show up on time, then we could re reserve for 8:30. My friends said no, that they could be seated and said they coulf order for us. My friend and I got there and even though we were rushed to be seated, the chef didn't come out until about 7:50pm so we were able to order for ourselves.
Service- 5/5 Melissa was cool, friendly, quick.
Show- 5/5 Chef was cool. He wasn't quiet, but wasn't talkative. He did his cool fire tricks and gave us a good amount of food.
Drinks- 5/5 We had a nice sake bomb and my soda was garnished with a cherry! You all know how I am about my garnishes! Lol.
Ambiance-3/5 It is one of the older teppanyaki restaurants so it is a bit more enclosed. You may smell like smoke after eating here, but it'll be worth it.
Food: 5/5
Steak and scallops dinner. Consisted of:
Salad with delicious peanut dressing
Miso soup
2 grilled shrimps-flavorful and charred, not sure if there is such thing as a grill hay like a wok hay! Lol.
A huge amount of scallops- flavorful and charred
Veggies were nicely grilled and flavorful.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Antoine B.Fresno, CA03Mar 29, 2024
Teppenyaki at its finest. Edo ya is well established and serves a tasty menu. Service is always exceptional. Very busy place so expect lots of traffic and crowded tables.

Growing up in Fresno, CA I've been going to Edo-ya for years and it has been one of my favorite restaurants in the central valley.
The service has always been amazing with them showing their knife skills in the beginning along with the flaming volcano mid dinner. The service is exceptional too. If you've never been and you like a little spice I'd definitely recommend getting the spicy Mayo on the side of your dinner too it's amazing.
My family and I got the chicken hibachi dinner which always comes with enough food to have leftovers the next day. And the chef even treated us all with a bite of the filet mignon during this visit, which I'm definitely getting during my next visit. It's usually busy so definitely try to call ahead and make a reservation if you can, but id definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area! :)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jasmine S.CA, CA04Apr 8, 2024
So far the best Teppanyaki I've had in Fresno, the rice alone is reason enough to go back. It's a five course meal starting off with miso soup, salad, rice, and your entree followed by ice cream. Definitely recommend getting a group of people to go together .

Food here always hits! Service could be better when it comes to the waiters, it's always a hit or miss. Always get that extra rice !

Had teppanyaki on 9/5/23. We were seated immediately. It was a weeknight, so the restaurant was not particularly busy. Our server was quick to take our drink order, and she was pleasant and helpful with answering our menu questions. Everything was clean. Our chef was obviously one of the more experienced on staff. He was quite engaging, and we had a lot of fun. The portions were huge and delicious, and I brought home half of my food. I had the Hibachi chicken, and others in my party ordered steak, and scallops. Everyone was pleased with their meal.
