I always buy vegetables and fruits at the same market location. It became natural for the sellers to know and memorize about me.

This morning I shopped at a seller usually. A middle-aged female salesperson. She sells a lot of good quality veggies. Also, non local vegetables. As a food blogger who is always exploring new ingredients for cooking, I also really like shopping at her stall.

Every time I come, she looks excited. She offered me various vegetables. Like this morning, she offered me Edamame. I've often heard about the name Edamame but never actually seen one. So, this is my first time seeing Edamame. Without thinking much, I decided to buy the Edamame.

I bought about $1 for 300 grams. She said Edamame are sweet and delicious to serve with just boiling in the way. Oh, I'm so excited!

Looks Like Soy Beans

I'm looking for some references. Many say that Edamame are soy beans that are picked while they are still green. Maybe it's Japanese Soy Beans. In fact, soy beans in Indonesia are smaller than that.

It really looks the same from the outside, like soy bean pods. But apart from their larger size, the color of the beans inside on Edamame is green.

I'm so grateful I can get fresh Edamame. Some Japanese restaurants are also available, but they are no longer in pods. Just beans.

How To Cook Edamame

How to cook and serve Edamame is quite simple. We just need to boil them before seasoning them.

For seasoning, only use garlic, soy sauce, chili flakes, salt, and corn flour. I use corn flour to make the sauce texture thick.

  • 2 tablespoons of chopped garlic.
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon of chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of corn flour
  • 5 tablespoons of water

Clean Edamame

I provide a small brush that I usually use to clean inside the bottle. Then, under the faucet with running water I wash the Edamame while wiping the surface of the edamame pods.

After finishing cleaning the surface of Edamame with a brush, I cleaned them a few more times with running water.

Boil Edamame

First, bring water to boil. Then add salt, following with Edamame. Boil them for about 5 minutes.

Remove Edamame and soak them in ice water (optional).

Prepare The Sauce

Add soy sauce, chili flakes, salt, corn flour, and water into a jar. Or you can just use a bowl. Mix them together until they combine well.

Stir-fry Garlic

Preheat the oil. Then add chopped garlic. Stir-fry for the moment to avoid getting burnt.

Then add the sauce. Keep stirring until the sauce becomes thick.

After the sauce becomes thick, add Boiled Edamame. Just keep stirring a moment until we can't see liquid water anymore. Then remove them.

How To Eat Edamame

When we put the stir-fried Edamame in our mouths, just squeeze the pods and the beans will popped out of the pods.

That's why seasoned edamame pods will give a good taste on the tongue first, then followed by Edamame Beans that just come out of the pods. It's the best way to enjoy edamame if you like rich flavors.

But you can also eat Edamame without sauce. Just boil them with salt water. After removed, sprinkle them with salt again, then enjoy. That's for people who like simple taste. Salt will make the edamame taste more savory and rich.

Unlike soybeans which are tougher, they are also more bland. Edamame actually tastes sweet and soft. So, I idolize Edamame more this time.

Next time, I'll be making edamame beans for salad or to complement the other veggie. Apart from snacks, of course we can serve Edamame as a side dish for eating rice.

So, what do you guys think about Edamame? These beans are absolutely my new favorite healthy snacks!

When my kids were young, we ate a lot of these, just boiled with salt. It was an easy way to get veggies into a child. They love them.

I like your preparation. It sounds really easy and really good. I buy edamame frozen, in the pods. They're very easy to find in most US grocery stores.

Edamame looks like something I could have for lunch with some mashed potatoes and fresh salad. They look also perfect for pasta. I have noidea if we can find those around here.

Loved the sauce as well. Thank you so much for another delicious recipe and beautiful dish, @anggreklestari 😁🖤

Hello dear friend @anggreklestari good morning
It is always good to experiment with new ingredients and try new food preparations.
It's great that you have this supplier of fresh vegetables and that you got Edamame. The dish looks delicious, I appreciate you sharing the recipe
that you enjoy it a lot

So glad to see you added garlic & chili flakes to the sauce. I've eaten edamame at quite a few establishments both in Japan & the US and I've found the most delicious version is just how you prepared yours.

Because I'm living in Indonesia, my cooking seasoning often use garlic, red onion, Chili and soy sauce. We use them everyday 😅

I was suprised the taste sooo good. I Will buy them again for many side dishes.
Thanks for stopping by

Ah! Well, you folks know how to season food right then!

The edamame looks really exquisite, I'm sure the taste must be spectacular! I close my eyes and imagine myself enjoying it with a portion of rice with grilled noodles, I loved your dish!
I wish you a wonderful week, hugs and blessings. @anggreklestari

Wow that looks so good. I feel from reading your post I got an idea of it's taste that and I think I have ate these before. Sounds good looks good must be good, haha.

We use them to make salads, the Venezuelan variety is longer and thinner, but I have also seen the one you share with us, although I have not used it. 😋

Again, something I've never heard of. It looks like regular beans. When I looked it up online, I saw that it's an immature version of soybeans. It looks delicious!

But yeah the size is bigger than soy beans in general at my area 😅 I thought Japan is really great for veggie and fruit qualities

It looks delicious. I'm a Filipina and I bet it would best taste if served with rice.

Yes it will works with rice. Later I Will make new menus 🙂
