Un adjetivo explicativo es aquel que simplemente se usa para describir y puede ser omitido, mientras que el especificativo se usa para diferenciar el objeto/ persona de otros.
Ejemplo:
Me senté en la verde hierba (verde: adjetivo explicativo)
Pásame la chaqueta roja
(Roja: adjetivo especificativo)
(Especificativo porque lo usas para diferenciarlo de lo demás, para especificar qué quieres)
