Abstract :

This paper is concerned with the variations in naming formal varieties of language. It aims to describe an overview of the changes in its characterization and qualification through the names which have been associated with it in the course of the history of Spanish. Data contained in this paper show that these names point to distinctions found at the universal level of language and manifested through terms resulting from codes of western rhetoric or discourse universes such as magnitudes, artistic criticism and external composition.
