Celebrating 50 Glorious Years

Dear Readers….
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
2017 will be significant to our school
history as it marks the 50th year since
foundation. There will be so much to celebrate, and it
will be an opportunity for our school community to
remember, reminisce and be proud of our
accomplishments and achievements.
In its history, JOHN XXIII SCHOOL, AGASHI has
provided the students with opportunities, educational
resources, and programs to grow in faith, to learn and
achieve academically, to develop talents and skills in
extracurricular activities and to serve the community.
Over the years the school has been always committed
to providing the present and future students with the
very best in educational instruction, facilities,
equipment and programs.
I appreciate the efforts taken by the editorial team in
presenting the E – Magazine on the occasion of the
The History of the Foundation of
John XXIII School
“The Journey of our past has led us to the present and will
educate us for the future”. I, Sr. Sheetal Gonsalves, indeed feel
privileged to be the Principal of John XXIII School. On this
momentous occasion of Golden Jubilee year, I would like to
share the journey of past 50 years of our school.
In the year 1962, the mission work upheld by Fr. Antonius
Maria Bodewig, the Founding Father of 'The Missionary Sisters
of the Queen of Apostles' under the banner of Immaculate
Society, started with the Nursery classes having thirty-six
students on roll, under the supervision of our former Superior
General Late Mother Antonia, who was a great follower of Pope
John, the XXlll, a Patron soul [1881- 1963]. Pope John XXlll,
had a desire to serve the Lord, the Catholics and the Non-
Catholics. He decided to become a priest and joined the
Pontifical Roman Seminary. He was ordained as a priest on
10th August, 1904 and in 1919, was designated as a spiritual
Director of the seminary and on 4th November 1958 He was
crowned wearing the 1877 Palatine Tiara for His services as a
social reformer for the weaker sections of the society and His
contribution for ecumenical and liturgical movements. His
thoughts for education were “Just as food is necessary to the life
of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul”
His literary work through many books proved to be a motivation
in the field of education.
After His passing away on 3rd June, 1963 at the age of 81, in
Rome, Mother Hemma, the then Superior of St. Teresa Convent,
Agashi suggested that the school be named after Pope John, the
XXlll. Blessed John XXlll was canonized and recognized as a
Saint on 27th April, 2014, at St. Peter's square, Vatican city, in
Rome.
Our school building 'Our Foundation'
A construction set up accomplished to kindle the spark in one's
heart to desire-dream destined for good things. At the time, His
Eminence Valerian Cardinal Gracias, the Indian Cardinal of
Roman Catholic Church who served as Archbishop of Bombay
since 1950, inaugurated and blest the School building and
donated the amount of 30,000/- for the construction. The
school owe obeisance to Late Archbishop, His Eminence Josef
Cardinal Frings and the Catholics of Cologne Germany, the
generous benefactors of school who donated the amount of
Four lakhs fifty thousand in 'Deutsche Mark'. The Sacred
Propagation of faith, Rome donated the amount of 35,700/-.
The building construction was completed in year 1968. The
most Reverend Msgr. Sebastian Vaz rendered his untiring
labour in supervising the building construction. Today, as a
mark of progress, the two-magnificent edifice of John XXlll High
School stand as a hub amidst the verdant greenery of Agashi.
Since then till date, the Sisters of Immaculate Society have been
taking painstaking efforts in educating the students from
different strata of the society to dispel the darkness of illiteracy.
Surmounting years after years, exploring the vistas of
knowledge with 'Love and Service' as our motto, has come along
the way of discipline. In 1993, the school completed 25 years
with success and celebrated the Silver Jubilee celebration with
great pomp. John XXlll educational family have successfully
accomplished in its new venture by extending its legacy, to
continue its perfection with a visionary dream of opening John
XXlll CBSE School on 16th June, January, 2008 in Virar and
John XXlll Junior College [Science stream] on 15th JULY 2016
in Agashi to meet the growing need and expectations of the
society.
Today, in 2017-18, the school completes 50 years of its
existence. We feel blest to witness the fiftieth anniversary and
very much on the verge to showcase the success of
accomplishing the second milestone in the history of John XXlll
High School celebrating The Golden Jubilee Year. Yet, striving
further with its aimed vision to reach 'The Diamond Jubilee Year'.
The Attic of Life
“The roots of the present lie in the past” and so to the past we
look back to the years when the scaffolds of our school were
formed. Five decades….50 years is a very, very long
period…..The word 'Golden Jubilee' in itself speaks a volume for
t h e a u r a o f g l o r y i n w h i c h o u r s c h o o l l i e s
submerged.……..Myself, being a proud John XXIII Alumnus,
take immense joy and pleasure to offer congratulations to my
School, the administration, the teachers, the students on this
glorious occasion. The service it has rendered to the society
might seem negligible according to some, but it is important to
realize that it is only the 'little' sunrays that constitute the vast
sunlight that floods the land.
It is rightly said that school is a second home of the children,
where they experience the life, society and the world. They
acquire the vision and are well equipped with values and logic to
make the world a better place to live in. In the present context
where in the institutions are busy to create successful
personalities in the careers only, where the mind is full of
bookish knowledge only. I can proudly boast of my school,
which believes in overall personality development of the
students to create good human beings who can think
innovatively and creatively. The academic curriculum, school
routine, rituals, traditions, discipline, co- curricular activities,
learning and teachable moments all become opportunities to
develop the full range of assets needed for an ethical and
fulfilling life.
Reminiscing about my school days…...Student – Teacher
Relation Today while being given the opportunity to pen down
my memories attached to John XXIII high school. Turning my
nostalgic mode on, rightly recalling I was not one of the
brightest stars of the class then…...I used to hate it when asked
to stand up straight….. I used to hate it when was told to wear
my uniform right….I used to hate it when was corrected to make
me speak correctly….I used to hate it when my work was not
accepted unless it was the best effort I could put in… But today
looking back, all these small things have played an important
role in the development of the person I am today. After the
parents, the next best person to include moral values is the
teacher. At various times, a teacher is called to be a mentor,
counsellor and guide. THANK YOU is a very small word to all my
beloved teachers who have played a pivotal role to imparting
values, building and moulding out a better character from
within myself to achieve rightful destiny.
To my school teachers, I can proudly say, that they “Make
Impossible Things Possible through their Compassionate,
Indomitable Spirit”.
Note to young budding stars
Young friends, you have a great future in front of you. You have
a greater role by far than you ever dreamt about you. Prepare for
it. Would like to quote here one of my favourites by Sir APJ
Abdul Kalam..….
“- If you fail, never give up because F. A. I. L. means -
" F i r s t A t t e m p t I n L e a r n i n g "
- End is not the end, in fact E. N. D. means "Effort Never Dies"
- If you get No as an answer, remember N.O. means -
“N e x t O p p o r t u n i t y ”
One must have a dream…. must continuously acquire
knowledge. Be not afraid of problems, then you will be
successful. I wish you all the best for a wonderful future ahead.
In the span of fifty years, the school has supported its pupils by
providing them opportunities and challenges that have enabled
them to inculcate in themselves values of commitment,
conscience, compassion together with a sharp intellect honed
with knowledge and understanding.
“Today will give place to tomorrow and tomorrow will dawn into
a day after and I wish for yet another glorious 50 years of
success to my school”. Congratulations!!!!
School Days.......
School a great place
A second life, a second home
Where knowledge is gained and friendship
begins
A new day arrives, a new fun begins.
A great place to enjoy
A great place to learn
Where love and respect is earned
Every face has a cheer and gain.
School is a better place to live in.
Teachers are great, they always motivate,
The thing required to change our Fate
Cultural activities for which children wait
School life is great.
The memories when I recall
My mind gets fresh and free of all
Then I think of my happy days
Conservation of Fuel
As we all know that, fuel is an essential part of our life almost
everything we use in our day to day life is run by fuel. It plays a
vital role and its impossible to imagine the life without this
important resource. But in today’s scenario we are using fuel in
such a reckless manner that soon it is going to be vanished from
our planet. 'Petroleum Conservation Research Association' is
encouraging fuel conservation to reduce gasoline consumption
and increase the alternative source of energy, but then too the
problems cannot be solved. Excessive and unplanned use of
fuel is not only a threat for future generation but also our
present generation who is getting badly affected too! When fossil
fuel gets burned, harmful gas that is 'Carbon dioxide' is
released which is the prime cause of global warming. Rise in
temperature has many harmful results such as melting of
glaciers, flooding of low lying areas and rise in sea level. If such
conditions continue, then our planet might face some serious
consequences in near future. Besides damaging the
environment, air pollution can result in many health hazards
like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder or (COPD)
and lung cancer. Due to lack of fuel, it is being imported from
other countries at a very high price. This can alter the economic
development in India.
The best way to conserve fuel is using alternative source of
energy. The ever-increasing demand for energy cannot be
fulfilled by the use of fossil fuels, only use of renewable energy
source is the best option in today's scenario. Solar, water and
wind energy can surely help in fuel conservation. Taking both
environmental and economic cost, solar energy works cheaper
than fossil fuel resources, also clean and non-polluting option.
There is one more way or technique to conserve fuel that is fuel
can be conserved by proper use of vehicles. Fuel consuming
vehicles must not be used for near distances. Bicycle and
walking must be encouraged. Opting these methods can
Page 15
Celebrating Glorious 50 years

provide physical exercise to our body and maintain proper
health. Carpooling must be emerged in a broad manner.
Unnecessary filling of petrol vehicles can cause of fuel wastage,
and one thing we should all remember that “ Fuel is like…….if
not used properly it will never come back.” Petrol must be
recharged in vehicles only when required. Air conditioners
must not be used every time, they should be only used during
extreme heat. Unnecessary weights in the car must be avoided.
Don't unnecessarily switch on the lights when not required,
“When it is bright, switch off the light.” The rise in economic
activity and trade has increase the demand of transport sector
which means more vehicles lead to more pollution. Use of (EVs)
'Electric Vehicles' on the road can be the solution of this
problem. The government must promote and encourage people
to replace their pollution causing vehicles with smart Zeroemission
vehicles.
Saving fuel is just as important as fuel production. Saving fuel
does not cost. Fuel conservation must be practised as a daily
habit. Awareness of fuel conservation must spread for a better
future. Here, a poem tell about conservation and importance of
fuel:-
Don't be a fool
Support car pool
Don't think to drive your own
Car and look cool,
Because very precious is 'Fuel'
So let everyone know about your mission
Don't take tension
Because next time I will mention'
That how to 'save fuel' and 'be cool’
My School 25 years down the line
Ever since I was a Kid, I've always seen St. John
XXIII High School, as a place of inspiration. My
school is a place where I spent almost whole of
my childhood days and created all good and bad
memories. All the time, I've seen this institution
incorporate and succeed at all arena's where
failure was never an obstruction. This
progressing St. John XXIII High School was
once just a single building with few students.
And now, it has grown to be one of the leading
school scoring 100% and has started a Junior
College. Now when I imagine a future of John
XXIII school, I could see that our school, would
turn to be most interactive school. Teaching
process will be through technology where
technology and nature will equal. Thus, I see a
progressive future of my school. A school with a
good past, good present, and a good future.
The Heart of a Warrior
The summers, winters, snowfalls and showers,
He marches along the border, demonstrating his
powers,
Responsibly holding, patriotism in his heart,
For his motherland, he willingly takes all the bullets
and darts.
Living a tough life, distant from all the savor,
He protects our nation from underserving neighbors,
Neither worst climate, nor fear can weaken his guard,
This is our soldier, with will too hard,
Yes, sometimes he misses his own home,
His loving wife and tender children of his own.
But this doesn't scare him for becoming a martyr,
Uplifting the tricolor, he forgets all his fears.
Though, he protects us from the external devils,
But, what about the dangers that internally imperils?
So, to honour our hero immensely brave,
All the malpractices we should put back to their
graves.
Firm hold on tricolor, patriotism in his cells,
He holds his ground, in front of cannon shells.
My heart speaks.... THE GLORY OF MY
SCHOOL
John XXII High School —The Alma-mater nestled amidst the verdant
greenery of Agashi, where the silence speaks the language of serenity.
The abode of obeisance and harmony around embellishing the
vicinity.
As you enter the Holy premises of the school, you witness the idol of
Mother Mary, patroness of the school, installed in a shelter,
generating inspirational source of ecstasy and love. A pristine that
rejuvenates the aura transmitting positive energy of faith and mercy.
The two-magnificent edifice of John XXIII High School is a hub,
adjacent to St. Theresa Hospital and St. James Church. The scenario
completes the sight of wisdom Divine, paving the way towards the
Lord, towards the education and towards the service to mankind.
Today John XXIII High School is synonymous to providing
enlightenment through the process of education, the two schools in
English and in Marathi medium and had nurtured thousands of
igniting minds. The school has grown in leaps and bounds steadily
and consistently by the constant guidance of Reverend Sisters,
catering the educational need of the society since decades.
Right from its inception, the mission work upheld by the sisters in the
year 1967 under the banner of Immaculate Education Society have
taken painstaking efforts and had toiled day in day out gathering,
convincing, encouraging the students from different strata of the
society and went ahead against many odds to dispel the darkness of
illiteracy.
The school has many commendable achievements to its credit. For it
'Ya Gottas' (The Mantra of Success) has come along the way of
discipline, perseverance aimed vision that have made the institution
one of the brightest stars amongst its contemporaries in the area.
The School indeed stands a well-established & well-organized
concepts and emulate versatility.
The school athletes have won accolades at the various regional &
District sports events and have been continuously keeping the flag
flying high in sports arena as well. The high standards and goals set
by the school is visible in its academics achievement for sustaining
unbeatable record of cent percent results every year, keep surpassing
the previous year's result is what makes it noteworthy.
In keeping with the emerging trends of the world. Today, 50 years
down the line, John XXIII School, giving further with its vision is also
childhood memories in John XXIII High School with warm
appreciation, I owe debt to "My School" My second home. The
place where I was introduced to my own self. Right now, what I
can do is to serve my school at my best. Apart from the thought
what my school has given me .... but what I can give to my
Cruel Society –Side Character
A cruel junction, is our society,
Filled with selfish thoughts, enriched with enmity,
Rottenly breeding like in a water stagnant,
Infecting the innocents like a cell malignant.
Incapable in tolerating others success,
Aims and ambitions, urging to suppress.
Jealously and false honour, in its roots are residing,
No values, no sympathy, nor the rules are abiding.
Of innovative ideas, it curbs their wings,
Finding excuses, to riot on small all things,
Having a mentality to destroy anything that flourishes,
Due to its consuming habits, every beauty just
vanishes.
Filling up the innocents, with cold fear,
Everyone is materialistic, with no one dear,
Jewels, Gems and Gold have covered their vision,
Greedily lost in its tempting illusion.
A cruel junction is our society,
Filled with selfish thoughts, enriched with enmity.
