Description

A plant of the Mediterranean basin. In the local ecology it is the first grass to re-sprout after a fire and has an important role in soil protection and in allowing other species to become established.

Flowers

Green spikelets, each spikelet has 3 stamens, the anthersupper fertile part of the stamen containing the pollen of which are pale yellow.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Narrow, glaucous, on either side of the stem. Leaves in a dense clump at the base.

Fruits Seeds

Caryopsis: a dry fruit containing the grain.
