A VERY BUSY STRETCH OF I-4 WILL SOON BE ABLE TO BETTER ACCOMMODATE TRAFFIC AS WESH 2’S MEAGHAN MELLADO REPORTS, I-4 THROUGH OSCEOLA AND POLK WILL BE JUST ABOUT DOUBLING IN SIZE. WE’VE ALL HEARD SOMEONE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE DRIVE FROM CENTRAL FLORIDA TO SOUTH. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE USUALLY REFERENCING I-4 TO BETTER ACCOMMODATE DRIVERS ON PART OF THAT COMMUTE. THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS WIDENING. I-4 FROM OSCEOLA PARKWAY TO US 27. IT’S PART OF A $4 BILLION PIECE IN THE MOVING FLORIDA FORWARD INFRASTRUCTURE INITIATIVE. THE PLANS INCLUDE ADDING AUXILIARY LANES FOR DRIVERS GETTING ON OR OFF THE INTERSTATE AND EXPRESS LANES IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. YOU MAY RECOGNIZE THE DESIGN. IT’S ALREADY IN PLACE THROUGH DOWNTOWN ORLANDO. THE RURAL DIAMOND INTERCHANGE AT I-4 AND STATE ROAD 33 IS ALSO BEING MODIFIED TO INCLUDE NEW LANES AND NEW ROUNDABOUT INTERSECTIONS. To better accommodate drivers on Interstate 4, the Florida Department of Transportation is widening the interstate from Osceola Parkway to U.S. Route 27.It’s part of a $4 billion piece in the Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative.The plans include adding auxiliary lanes for drivers getting on or off the interstate and express lanes in both directions.The design is similar to through downtown Orlando. The rural diamond interchange at I-4 and State Road 33 is also being modified to include new lanes and new roundabout intersections.The overall goal is to improve safety and lower commute times in the rapidly growing area.
