The Dead Have Never Died.

The Dead Have Never Died.

London: George Allen & Unwin, 1918. First UK Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 102pp. Red cloth lettered in black on spine & front board. Edward C. Randall (1860-1935) was a trial lawyer from Buffalo, New York who became interested in Spiritualism around 1890 following his attendance at a séance. Soon afterwards he established a 'Circle’ in his home which later included Emily French, a ‘direct voice’ medium also from Buffalo. Randall wrote several books on the subject of Spiritualism with this being the first UK edition of one his most popular books, in which he offered a wide-reaching explanation of his views on the after-life. Chapter headings: Voices of the Living Dead; A Conscious Dissolution; Speech with the Dead; Told in the AfterLife; The Life Mass; The Continuity of Life; A Universe of Matter; The Record of a Night; Atomic Life; Etheric Environment; So Little Change; Man's Etheric Body; The Unknown Land; Personal Identity; Spheres in the AfterLife; Their Daily Life: Facts Well to Know; From Death's Sleep; The Imagination; Power of Suggestion; Never a Secret in the World; Mental Activity; Future of a Child; Actualities of the AfterLife; Rational Deductions; A Tribute. A handwritten annotation on the title-page reads: "To the Editor of 'Light', 1919," and underneath the author's printed name, a further annotations reads: "Counsellor at Law..." and gives an address in Buffalo. This would appear therefore to be the author's presentation copy to the editor of the well-known Spiritualis journal, presumably written in his own hand. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front free endpaper. Spine & margins of boards faded, a few bumps to edges, spine ends chafed, light browning to page-edges, half-title & last page - else a clean VG copy (no dust jacket). Item #46960
