Communication with the Spirit World: Personal Experiences of a Catholic Priest.

New York, NY: John Felsberg, 1932. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. vi + 432pp. Blue textured cloth boards gilt-lettered on spine & front board. Johannes Greber (1874-1944) was a controversial Catholic priest turned Spiritualist who claimed to have been informed, via psychic communication, of errors in the Bible, and went on to retranslate the New Testament with the help of God's 'spirits.' The story of his experiences and communications with these spirits was recounted by him in 'Communication with the Spirit World.' His work caused some dissension within the Jehovah's Witness community, as whilst he was originally dismissed by them as a Spiritualist, the Watchtower Society nonetheless sometimes cited his translation of the New Testament in support of their similar renderings of John 1:1 and Matthew 27:52 & 53 (a practice they apparently stopped in the 1980s). First US Edition, translated from the Second German Edition. The original publisher's address on the title page has been struck through, and an ink stamp of "Publishers & Distributors / Johannes Greber Memorial Foundation .." with their N.J. address applied above it. A printed slip with a b/w photo portrait of the author with a quote from him below it, and two copies of another printed promotional sheet are loosely-enclosed. Spine ends rubbed, slight age-toning to page-edges, otherwise a clean VG + copy in VG dust jacket (Dust jacket slightly darkened and chafed, the distributor has struck through the original publisher's details on the spine, and crossed through their address on the on back panel). A nice copy. Item #44138
