Kristen Stewart is the queen of the grunge haircut. From mullets to wolf cuts, she plays around with the most directional styles, but still manages to never put a foot wrong. The latest tricky-to-pull-off look Kristen has conquered? The micro-fringe.

Stewart unveiled the new look on the opening night of the Sundance Film Festival (where she was given the Visionary Award), showing off new bangs that sat a couple of centimeters above her brows, and were styled with her signature lived-in texture, courtesy of her longtime hairstylist, Adir Abergel.

A fringe like this is difficult to pull off, but naturally, Stewart makes it look easy. Confidence (which she has in spades) is a prerequisite, but it’s also a look that works best when it isn’t cut with too much precision, or worn too neatly. If you don’t already have a fringe, copy Kristen and start with curtain bangs first, to see how you feel. A micro-fringe requires commitment, as it takes a lot longer to grow out.

A perfect style for anyone with good brows and beautiful facial features, the micro-fringe was popularized by Audrey Hepburn back in the 1950s–and it either works on you, or it doesn’t. On Kristen, paired with face-framing tendrils falling out of an otherwise artfully messy up-do, it works.
