The Palmview wastewater project aimed to bring a sewer system to the city has come to a halt.
Agua SUD terminated their contractor leaving the project undone for the time being, and residents with an unpaved street for weeks.
Longtime resident of Palmview, Mary Lou Prudencio, has been at the forefront of the project. Her home is on the corner of Frontage and Breyfogle Road. At the time when the street was unpaved, Prudencio suffered from respiratory issues.
“We had dust in the house, in the living room, in the bathroom, which is in the back, and in the cupboards,” said Prudencio.
She says during the time the street was unpaved and Agua SUD was working on the project, she suffered from respiratory issues.
“It was the first time I had respiratory problems in my life,” said Prudencio.
Prudencio says her street is constantly busy, and the smooth driving is new. The City of Palmview paved the street just a few weeks ago, but the sewer system is still undone.
Prudencio says Agua SUD has not been helpful but the City of Palmview has.
“It is useless to talk to Agua SUD, that is why I go to Mr. Rudy Flores – the director of planning.”
CBS4 reached out to Agua SUD on the ongoing project with the City of Palmview but did not get a response, and instead referred us to a press release sent out last month.
Stating in the press release: “OG Construction has failed to perform its work per contract. OG Construction is months behind schedule and its work contains uncorrected deficiencies.”
Prudencio says she is grateful the street is now paved and doesn’t have to deal with dusty conditions for now.
Agua SUD and the City of Palmview meet weekly to continue to find a solution for its residents.
A special meeting was held on December 16 but did not give any update on the sewer project.
