As she enters hospice, Cat Janice is giving her 7-year-old son a special way to remember her.

The 31-year-old Washington, D.C. singer was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare malignant tumor in 2021, and has endured a daunting battle since. On Jan. 15, she announced that her cancer has progressed, making it impossible for her to speak, and that she is now home in hospice.

Janice released "Dance You Outta My Head," a disco-pop song with love undertones, on streaming platforms on her birthday, Jan. 19. Days later she learned the track charted on iTunes at No. 7 worldwide, made it to No. 1 in Romania, Ireland, and the Czech Republic, and reached No. 12 in the U.S.

"I am in complete shock," Janice wrote on Instagram. "I woke up cause my med pump was beeping and I happened to check my phone to witness this absolute miracle of God saving my life for a few days to show me his power and incredible mastery of peace and trust in my life."

The proceeds of the song streams will go to her son Loren's future. The track has over half a million streams on Spotify.

"I want my last song to bring joy and fun! It's all I've ever wanted through my battle with cancer," she wrote in a TikTok video on Jan. 15.

Cat Janice has documented grueling cancer battle

Following her 2021 diagnosis, Janice has continued to make music and social media content while undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. On July 22, 2022, she was declared cancer-free and lived nearly a year without the disease.

But this past June, the "white shoes" singer shared the tragic news that her cancer had returned in her lungs.

"I'm going to be really effing strong about it and I'm going to let you guys know what's going on," she said in a TikTok video posted on June 5. "And thank you guys so much for loving me. Thank you for loving me through this battle."

Janice has documented her treatment and promoted her music through it all and has received support from her fans. She's also taken inspiration from her circumstances, including in her single "Wishing I Was You" where she chronicles the experience of losing her hair "to modern medicine."

Earlier this month, she told her followers that "the tumors basically tripled overnight."

'Dancing on the edge of disaster'

Through a series of health declines, Janice has refused to let cancer hinder her spirit and ambitions.

Before her cancer, the singer won the Washington Area Music Award in the Best Rock Artist category in Washington, D.C., in 2019. Last year she was a recipient of the Robert Allen Award from the The ASCAP Foundation.

With "Dance You Outta My Head," Janice wanted to make a song with fun lyrics that people can bounce around to. She told People Magazine that "my art is all I have to leave behind."

"Dancing on the edge of disaster. Makes my heart beat faster and the feeling, the feeling ain't right, so I'm going to dance you out of my head," Janice sings in the track.

In her Instagram post last week, Janice made sure to tell her followers that her song streams will go directly to Loren.

"I don’t know if I’ll make it 4 days to song release but I can’t appreciate y’all enough," she wrote.

One of her followers replied by telling her: "Your strength and foresight to provide for your son while you are enduring this illness is such a massive burst of love and light you have blessed him with.

"The is what motherly love and strength looks like," they continued. "We will make sure we do our part."
