Why You Should Visit Arrochar This Spring

Arrochar is a little village in the Scottish Highlands on the Cowell Peninsular in Argyll and Bute. It is located near the head of Loch Long and is incorporated within the ‘Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park’.

This beautiful place is set amongst some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland and is a perfect base for exploring the northern section of the Argyll Forest Park.

The sea loch has an idyllic location surrounded by mountains and is within easy reach of Glasgow.

There are excellent rail (the West Highland Line) and road links to the area making it a popular destination all year round.

Things to do in Arrochar

Why not take a cruise on nearby Loch Lomond. Boats sail from Luss and visit the hidden gem of Inchcailloch (Isle of the Cowled Woman). Once there you can enjoy a woodland walk or even a picnic on the shores, weather permitting! There is a little village shop in Luss and also a seafood bar for a tasty treat.

For twitchers and walkers, the RSPB Inversnaid Nature Reserve is a must. The warmer months may be visited by redstarts, pied flycatchers and wood warblers, whilst winter months are perfect for enjoying a stroll through Scotlands rainforest. You may even be lucky enough to spot red deer and pine martens. Argyll Forest Park is ideal for hikers and horse riders alike, featuring woodlands, mountains, lochs and glens.

For a memento of your stay, take a trip to the Mansefield Studios Pottery and Craft Gallery. Here you can pick up a gift from the unique range of pottery, jewellery, paintings and traditional crafts. The Studio overlooks Loch Long and the Arrochar Alps.

If you’re feeling a little more energetic you could take a hike up the famous ‘Cobbler’ in Arrochar, also known as Ben Arthur. Mostly clear paths with some steep rocky sections, this is approximately seven miles in length and will take you around 4-6 hours to complete. The stunning view from the top takes in panoramic views over the Southern Highlands.

Our selected hotel in Arrochar is the Bay Claymore Hotel. Perfectly located on the banks of Loch Long, expect a traditional welcome with wonderful views over the loch to the surrounding mountains. It offers comfortable accommodation, entertainment and friendly service.
