Michael N. Abisi

LOWELL, MA- Michael N. Abisi, 72, a longtime resident of Lowell, died peacefully on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, after being at the Wingate at Belvidere in Lowell for several months. Born in Lowell on December 12, 1943, he was a son of the late Gainley and Grace (Kfoury) Abisi. Michael was a graduate of Lowell High School, and then spent the majority of his career working for Raytheon for over 25 years. Michael was an outstanding all around athlete, having played in the Town League in Basketball and also set several Home Run records playing and managing the Modern Softball team. He was an excellent golfer and horse-racing handicapper. Michael was an avid sports fan, enjoying professional basketball, golf and football, particularly the New York Giants and Boston Celtics. In his later years, he loved having breakfast at his favorite morning stop, Brew'd Awakening Coffeehaus in downtown Lowell, talking and being attended to by owner Andy Jacobson & the girls. He is survived and will be deeply missed by his two children, Nicholas Abisi and his wife Stephanie of Indiana, and Kari (Abisi) Medeiros of Nashua, NH; three grandchildren, Grace Abisi and Michael and Rachel Medeiros; three brothers, Frederick Abisi and his wife Patricia of Lowell, Ron Abisi and his wife Donna of Hampton, NH, and Robert Abisi of Andover; a sister, Joyce Andersen and her husband William of Dracut; several nieces and nephews and his longtime closest friends, Esther Sayer, Bill Simon, Steve Tsakalakos, Charles Turcogorge and Timmy Demetropolis. Mike was predeceased by his sister, Mary Denise Abisi; his former wife, Virginia (Cunningham) Abisi and his very close friend, Perry "Andy" Andricopolous. Michael's family would like to thank Diane Tessier- Efstathiou, Administrator of Wingate at Belvidere and her hard- working staff, for all of the love and care they showed to Mike during his time there. ARRANGEMENTS: At the request of the family, calling hours have been omitted. A Funeral Mass will be held on THURSDAY, September 1st at 11 a.m. at Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 44 Bowers Street, Lowell, MA. Those who wish to attend the church service as well as the interment are encouraged to meet at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT, by 10 :30 a.m. THURSDAY for the procession. Burial will take place in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
