Chirmiri (also Chirimiri) is a hill station and a municipality in the Koriya district of the state of Chhattisgarh, India. Chirimiri is a hill station and is very green. Chirimiri is well known for its coal mines (see Chirimiri Coalfield); mining began here in 1925. Chirmiri has a broad gauge railway link, used primarily to transport coal from the region. The coal industrial belt has developed in the region owing to the close proximity of the coalmines. The largest coal producing industry in India, the South Eastern Coalfields Limited is located in the region. Chirmiri is one of the 13 administrative areas of the coal industry.
Transport
The "Bhopal - Chirmiri Passenger" train service operates between Bhopal Junction Railway Station in Bhopal and Chirmiri. Other trains such as the Sarguja Express and the Jabalpur - Ambikapur Express also serve Chirmiri. Chirmiri is linked directly by train from Anuppur Junction in Madhya Pradesh which is a major rail hub. A bus service from Anuppur to Chirmiri is available.
Chirmiri is well connected from Bilaspur and daily direct trains and buses are available for transport. "Durg-Chirimiri" train facility is also available daily from chirimiri which connect "Raipur" the capital of Chhattisgarh.
Culture
The most famous place to visit is "Lord Jagnnath Temple"; made by the workers brought from Puri, it looks almost like the Jagannath Temple (Puri) at Puri. Durga Puja is a religious festival celebrated by the Bengali population. Dussehra is also an important celebration in Chirimiri. There is so many places where Hindu community go and pray like "Kalibadi"; it in Haldibadi and Baigapara it is in Bartunga and Gufa Mandir it is in Godaripara
