Well, another one bites the dust.
After two years of dating, George Clooney and Stacy Keibler have ended their relationship. "Stacy called it quits. She wants to have children and a family someday. She knows where George stands on that," a source close to the pair tells People. "They talked and they quietly stopped being a couple several weeks ago."
Although the split really shouldn't come as that much of a shock, we actually had hopes for this romance to go the distance. We didn't want to believe the breakup rumors that have been rumbling since last year; the actor even denied them. But there may have been a hint that there was trouble in paradise when Stacy tweeted on June 11: "Trying times are not the times to stop trying."
Another likely sign: George and Stacy have not been seen together publicly since March, due, of course, to their "hectic schedules." Another source tells People: "They haven't seen each other in a while and they've both been working so much, so in recent months, they've started growing apart."
Stacy is just the latest in a long line of women who thought she had a shot at being "the one" for the famed bachelor. The list includes Sarah Larson, Krista Allen, Maria Bertrand, Lisa Snowdon, Celine Balitran, Karen Duff and Kelly Preston. And let's not forget the one lady who actually got him down the aisle: Talia Balsam, who was married to George from 1989-1992. Was marriage so stifling for this ladies' man that he won't ever consider doing it again?
But we have to wonder what any woman going into a long-term relationship with the salt-and-pepper-haired hunk is thinking. Sure, she gets to spend summers at his gorgeous estate in Lake Como, Italy, and has the opportunity to attend glamorous events on his arm while becoming more famous herself—but going in, these ladies must realize that it won't lead to a real commitment. Perhaps that doesn't really matter.
Although George and Stacy may have ended things, they are still "technically" living together, reports TMZ. But it doesn't look like that will be the case much longer. And in the world of celebrities who own at least five different houses, it is pretty much a guarantee that these two aren't really still living under the same roof.
The question now remains: Who will be the next woman to catch the actor's eye? And more importantly, is there anyone out there who can convince George to try marriage again?
