Narada - the Deva-Rishi or Devrishi - the sage of the Gods finds fond mention across all Puranas and Kathas of ancient India. Narad Jayanti - the birth anniversary of Devarshi Narada is observed on the first day of Jyeshtha - the third month of the Hindu calendar (which is based on the lunar phases).

Just as the second Hindu month Vaishakh ends with Buddha Purnima or Buddha Jayanti - (the full moon day) and Jyeshtha or Jaishtha unfolds ith the first day called as Krishna Pratipada.

Usually, Narada Jayanti falls the next day of Buddha Purnima but the two festivals can fall on the same solar calendar day if the moon's Pratipada Tithi is skipped.

The two fortnights of a Hindu month are Krishna (waning phase of the moon) and Shukla (waxing phase of the moon) Paksha.

The North Indian calendar is mostly Purnim-ant - that is a month ends on a full moon. The South Indian calendar is Amavasy-ant - ie. the month ends on the Amavasya - No Moon.

So as per the North, Narada Jayanti is on Jyeshtha month's Krishna Pratipada, but for the South, it is on the Vaishakha (as Jyeshta is a fortnight away) Krishna Pratipada. Basically, it is observed on the same day but it falls in different months in these two parts of India.

So on Krishna Pratipada of Jyestha that falls on Gregorian calendar 8th May 2020 is Narada Jayanti in honour od Devrishi Narad who keeps roaming all the three Lok or worlds - Akash (Space or Heaven), Prithvi (Earth) and Paataal (or Netherworld).

In a fond and not at all rude manner, Narada is sometimes referred to as the first journalist of the world as he keeps travelling across the universe to communicate the information. However, most of His timely information that is mostly timed in such a manner that it creates trouble, But one ultimately sees that it is for the betterment of the Universe.

Narada Rishi is a steadfast devotee of Lord Vishnu whose other name is Narayana. Since Lord Vishnu's Narayana avatar is considered an embodiment of the truth, Narada inadvertently lets the truth (however bitter or dicey) to slip by when he utters "Narayan, Narayan".
