TAKING THE MIX

Where 90s girl band stars are now – from drunken arrest to sleeping in a car, bitter feuds & glam lookalike daughter

SHE famously sang the catchy lyrics of C’est La Vie as part of 90s pop group B*Witched.

But 24 years since the band's hit debut single, Edele Lynch has revealed her life took a turn for the worse when her marriage collapsed and she spiralled into alcoholism.

The Irish singer admitted she self-harmed, downed shots of vodka and suffered panic attacks after splitting from fitness instructor Michael Barrett - who she married in 2002.

Edele, 42, told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine she felt so low "there were moments where I wondered: Should I drink my way out?"

Mum-of-three Edele looks dramatically different from her heyday, having swapped her trademark red locks for blonde.

She starred in the band with sister Keavy, now 42 and a trained counsellor, and pals Sinead O'Carroll, 49, currently a reiki practitioner, and Lindsay Armaou, 43, who went into acting and had a part in the Netflix drama Stay Close.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Here we reveal other 90s popstresses who have suffered hardship in the years since finding fame.

Mis-Teeq

Sabrina Washington

Mis-Teeq formed in 1997 when Alesha Dixon and Sabrina Washington met at the Dance Attic studios in Fulham, London.

Along with Su-Elise Nash, they shot to fame with their garage hit Why in 2001, but split four years later.

While Alesha remains in the spotlight as a judge on Britain's Got Talent, her bandmates haven't enjoyed the same level of success.

In 2019 Sabrina opened up about her battle with booze - using the lyrics of her comeback single, Gone, to explain her struggles since leaving the stage.

It appears there's no love lost between her and Alesha. In 2008 she took aim at the presenter's singing voice, claiming: “A lot of people say Alesha should have stuck to MC-ing because her voice isn’t that strong and I agree. I did a lot of the work in Mis-Teeq.”

In 2020 Sabrina announced she was suing her former bandmate for allegedly “wrongfully claiming” songwriting royalties for Mis-Teeq tracks Why and All I Want.

Alesha strongly denied the accusation; it is not currently known what stage the proceedings are at.

Su-Elise Nash now runs a stage school, and splits her life between Britain and Australia.

She welcomed a baby boy, Blu, with partner Ryan St David Jones last year.

Eternal

Eternal gained international success with hits including I Wanna Be The Only One, Angel of Mine and Save Our Love, and their 1994 debut album Always & Forever sold 1.2 million copies in the UK.

They formed in 1992 when Easther Bennett and older sister Vernie got together with Kelle Bryan, who brought classmate Louise Redknapp into the group.

They split four years later but reformed again briefly in 2013, without Louise, for ITV documentary The Big Reunion.

Louise famously went on to marry - and later divorce - footballer Jamie Redknapp while Kelle is on the Loose Women panel and starred in Hollyoaks.

Vernie, 50, is now a lawyer. She has previously said she put her legal dream on hold for the band but returned to her studies when they disbanded.

She has also had presenting jobs on Songs of Praise, for Gala Bingo and at the MTV Music Awards.

She and sister Easther were devastated by the loss of their brother Oliver, who died of lung cancer in 2010 aged 49.

Easther, now 49, married Boyzone star Shane Lynch in 1998 but they split two years later.

Shane, now 46, has admitted he became withdrawn, moody and - in his own words - "an extremely angry man" when Boyzone took a break in 2000.

He later said his mental health issues were at their worst in the late 90s when he dabbled in witchcraft and the occult. He has since found God.

Easther has mainly stayed out of the public eye but the sisters remain close and made an appearance on Celebrity Pointless in 2016.

TLC was huge in the 90s, selling 65 million records worldwide, and enjoyed hits with iconic tracks Creep, Waterfalls and No Scrubs.

But tragedy hit when singer Lisa Lopes was killed in a car crash in Honduras in 2002 while working on her second album.

After the band Tionne pursued an acting career and landed a few small roles, including on Days of our Lives in 2016.

She also appeared on The Real Housewives of Atlanta as a pal of Kandi Burruss, and starred in the US version of The Apprentice.

Tionne also enjoyed success as a solo artist; her debut single Touch Myself was the soundtrack to the 1996 film Fled.

Rozonda made a brief cameo appearance in the Kriss Kross 'Jump' video in 1992 before joining the band.

She starred in her own reality series, What Chilli Wants, on VH1, which followed her quest for love with the help of a relationship expert.

Rozonda has never married but dated singer Usher and boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., and shares 25-year-old son Troy with her ex, music producer Dallas Austin.

Destiny's Child are best known as Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, but when the band formed in 1990, it was minus Michelle, with LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett.

They scored number one hits with Bills, Bills, Bills and Say My Name but Roberson and Luckett accused Beyonce's dad Mathew of favouring her and Rowland.

In early 2000 they were replaced by Williams and Farrah Franklin - who quit within a few months, leaving the trio we know today.

Farrah's career ended in scandal after she was arrested three times for being drunk, and an embarrassing police mugshot was released to the public in 2014.

In January 2007 she appeared with other ex-members of Destiny’s Child in an E! Channel special Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

She claimed she was mistreated and ignored by management after asking where all the group’s cash was going.

LeToya, 39, struggled to carve out a career after leaving the group and told how she found herself aimless, sofa surfing and even spending nights sleeping in her car in LA.

In 2006 she had success with her own self-titled album then went on to star in movies before landing a role in American soap Greenleaf.

In August the mum-of-two split from husband Tommicus Walker.

She and LaTavia Roberson, 40, won an out-of-court settlement with Destiny's Child after a legal wrangle over the songs they performed.

All Saints, comprised of Nicole and Natalie Appleton, Melanie Blatt and Shaznay Lewis, formed in 1993 and enjoyed hits with Pure Shores, Never Ever and Under the Bridge.

After two multi-platinum albums and two Brit Awards, they split in 2001 but have reunited several times over the years and still perform today.

These days Melanie, 47, stuns fans with her lookalike daughter Lillyella Zender, 22, whose dad is former Jamiroquai bassist Stuart Zender, on Instagram. The couple split in 2006.

Melanie and Lillyella made a rare public appearance last year at the 35th birthday performance of The Phantom of the Opera.

In 2013 and 2015, Melanie was a judge on The X Factor NZ and this year took part in Celebrity Masterchef.

Shaznay, 47, launched a solo career in 2004 but found greater success writing for other artists, including Black Heart for Stooshe and How Ya Doin? for Little Mix.

Shaznay, a keen football fan, also had a small part in the 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham as a team mate of Keira Knightley's character Jess.

She has two children with husband Christian 'Storm' Horsfall, a dancer.

The Sugababes - originally Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy - got together in 1998.

The line-up changed three times before returning to the original in 2011 and, in the interim, included ex-Atomic Kitten member Heidi Range.

Founding member Keisha Buchanan last year said she was still having therapy more than a decade after quitting the band.

Keisha - replaced in 2009 by Jade Ewan - says her bandmates accused her of bullying which affected her “emotionally, mentally and financially” and left her with confidence issues.

Now 37, she started but failed to finish a solo album and appeared on the Great British Menu.

Keisha, who moved to Canada to pursue an acting career, was left devastated last year after her dad died.
