GARR OF HONOUR: Manchester City cleared of any wrongdoing over controversial signing of Argentine wonderkid Benjamin Garre

Who is Benjamin Garre?

THE 17-year-old is an Argentinian footballer who is currently part of Manchester City.

He is the grandson of Oscar Garre an ex-Argentinian world champion.

City signed the youngster when he was just 16 from Velez Sarsfield in July 2016.

In the most recent season the young forward has been playing as part of the under-23 set up and was part of the side who competed in the Checkatrade Trophy.

He scored his first goal against Rotherham last August.

Why could City have been facing a ban because of the transfer?

CITY were accused of breaching strict transfer rules when they signed Garre in 2016.

Argentinian club Velez Sarsfield believe that the newly-crowned Premier League champions unethically contacted the young star when he was just 15.

According to them they allegedly committed a breach of rules by signing the winger just days after his 16th birthday.

What would have happened if City lost the case?

CITY could have face a two-window transfer ban which would stop them registering players during the summer break and the January 2019 transfer window.

The club would have been able to appeal the decision which would delay the restrictions, meaning there would have been a chance that manager Pep Guardiola could have chance to sign his targets.
