“Fuerte” is a variety of Avocado grown for its plentiful and tasty fruit. The fruit on this variety have a dark green skin when mature, typically weigh 300 grams, and have flesh that is lime green with a buttery texture and nutty taste. They are borne amidst the lush and glossy foliage, which emerges bronze and ages to dark green. It typically grows to 5 m tall and 4 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary which not only keeps the tree contained but encourages fruiting at more easily reached levels. Best performance with this tree is achieved when it is planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun and protected from frost. It will handle light to medium frost once established but this will be at the expense of fruiting. “Fuerte” is commonly grown for fruit production but also makes for a lovely specimen and is well suited for including in sub-tropical gardens or adding to a mixed planting in regions that experience only light frost.
