Allegiant Travel Company, parent company of Allegiant Air and Allegiant Vacations, plans to start nonstop service between Sarasota Bradenton International Airport and Plattsburgh International Airport this summer.

The flights are set to begin June 12 with introductory one-way fares as low as $79.

Plattsburgh, New York, sits on the west shore of Lake Champlain with Vermont to the east and Montreal, Canada, 63 miles to the north.

The addition of nonstop flights to Plattsburgh brings the number of destinations available at SRQ to 54.

“This expansion caters to passengers and communities we feel have been overlooked by other carriers,” Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief revenue officer, said in a news release.

“Allegiant’s unique business model, connecting small-to-medium sized cities to vacation destinations, creates accessible travel options not otherwise available in what we believe are under-served markets. We know travelers enjoy the convenience of nonstop flights departing from their neighborhood airport,” Wells said.

Allegiant adds New York destination from SRQ

The route between SRQ and Plattsburgh will provide the only nonstop service between the airports.

Allegiant began service at SRQ in April 2018 with three destinations. With the addition of Plattsburgh, Allegiant now offers 28 destinations from SRQ.

“We are thrilled that Allegiant Air will be introducing a new nonstop destination to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport,” Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of SRQ, said in the news release.

“This addition will provide a convenient connection for both U.S. and Canadian travelers, allowing them to explore the stunning beaches, cultural gems, and unforgettable experiences that the Sarasota Bradenton area has to offer,” Piccolo said.

The initiation of service at SRQ by Allegiant and by Southwest in 2021 helped make the airport the fastest-growing in the United States.

In 2023, the airport served over 4.3 million passengers, a 215% increase from 2018 and 3 million more passengers than the 1.3 million passengers the airport served five years ago.

The number of airlines and routes served at SRQ has also continued to grow over the last five years, expanding from six airlines to 11, and from 12 nonstop destinations to 54.
