The Fort San Luis Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (FSLDAR) is pleased to announce that DAR has allotted $250,000 in funding for the 2024-2025 Historic Preservation Grants to support local historic preservation.

Beginning August 1, charitable 501 (c)(3) organizations may apply for grants. Projects should be tangible and long-lived, with lasting historic preservation benefit. Examples of projects considered for funding include restoration of historic buildings, digitization or preservation of historic documents, preservation of historic artifacts; restoration, rededication or relocation of existing historical sites’ markers; and cemetery headstone and monument conservation.

The maximum grant award is $10,000; smaller projects are encouraged. Applicants are required to match the grant award 1:1. This match must be in cash and cannot be donated services or in-kind supports.

Projects must begin and be completed within the grant year. The applicant may be a single organization or multiple organizations. One of the organizations must be a registered 501 (c)(3).

Applications for the round of grants to be awarded in May 2024 will be accepted August 1 – October 31, 2023. Grants are now submitted online via the Historic Preservation Grant computer portal https://dar.academicworks.com/opportunities/391.

Each application must have a sponsorship letter from a DAR chapter regent or a state regent. To get a sponsorship letter, it is important that by September 15, a potential applicant notify the FSLDAR Historic Preservation Committee of their interest in applying. This letter of intent may be emailed to grants.fsldar@gmail.com. The email lets us know that your organization is interested in applying for a grant but does not commit you to applying.
