Quartz Adularia

Crystal Description

Quartz is a silicon dioxide mineral belonging to the Quartz group. Quartz is the most abundant mineral on Earth, found in most geological environments and a component in most rock types. Quartz varieties include microcrystalline Chalcedony types (each variety has its own page); and macrocrystalline Quartz types, which is clear in its purest form. Impure varieties include Amethyst, Citrine, Smokey Quartz and the massive variety Rose Quartz (each variety has its own page).

Quartz, also known as Rock Crystal, is further named after the growth types Phantom, Elestial, Double Terminated; locality Tibetan Black, Herkimer Diamond; inclusions Rutile, Tourmalinated; artificial coatings Aqua Aura, Opal Aura; and synthetic production Siberian Blue, Green; and that's to name but a few (each has its own page).

Quartz Adularia is the name given Quartz included with Gold formed in low sulphidation epithermal gold vein systems. Hot water and other fluids under high pressure at depths of 10 km cause Quartz, Adularia, Calcite, Gold and Silver to precipitate in faults as the fluids boil and then cool in veins nearer the surface.

Adularia is a potassium aluminium silicate Orthoclase Feldspar also known commonly as Moonstone.

Gold is a native element which occurs in hydrothermal quartz veins, metamorphic and igneous rocks and in volcanic exhalative sulphide deposits. Gold is also a precious metal.

Quartz Adularia is a rare crystal which has not been available for around 50 years.
