Road Pricing Necessary, Unhealthy Rhetorical Analysis
In Daniel Wood s article Road Pricing Necessary, Contentious and coming to Vancouver, he
provides a glimpse into the possible uproar that will come of introducing road pricing to the city
of Vancouver. The masses of people who commute by transit have to pay for it while drivers on
the other hand, pay nothing to use the roads. Woods goes on to describe examples of how drivers
get charged for using the roads in other parts of the world and how it helps to reduce congestion
and encourage the use of public transit. Woods states that in Vancouver, the roads have been free
since the beginning of time. Consequentially, the public does not really comprehend the concept of
roadpricing let alone have any experience with it and without the proper education,

Van Gogh In The Yale Art Gallery
This painting depicts a regular cafГ© at night, with the dimensions of 72.4 x 92.1 cm (28 1/2 x 36
1/4 and an accession number of 1961.18.34 this panting stands out amongst other paintings because
of how the myriad of colors and hues mix that causes a clash in contrast. In the Yale Art Gallery,
this oil paintingwas in the American room among other American crafts. The thing that quickly
caught my eye on this painting was the way Van Gogh applied detail, creativity and the
unorthodox use of colors. The painting seemed to be dark and gloomy which was quite a unique
quality about the painting. Van Gogh is one of the most famous expressionist artists that people
know and love today. This oil painting on a canvas has been called one of Van Gogh s

It s almost as if the waiter is staring directly at the viewer of the painting. Subjectively, this
painting stood out to me and even more when I had seen it. This painting had a quite abnormal
perspective in a way that the cafГ© floor covers a large area of the canvas that Van Gogh painted
on. It appeared as if the artist that painted this piece achieved a high vantage point because it
looks as if he was suspended in the air while painting. Looking at the Clock in the CafГ© it was
almost 1am and this is why the gas lighting was on, and it allowed the cafe to stay opened very
late. As the viewer can observe from the painting, the whole environment in the Night Cafe is not
so happy and warm. The space itself seemed so isolated and shadowy even the people in the
painting had their heads hung almost as if they were sad. Although Van Gogh used redwhich
usually is a quite ecstatic color the addition of red, dark green and dark orange just created an
environment that wasn t so welcoming. Also, the use of Van Gogh s brushstroke had also added
another dark feeling to the painting. In this painting, it is very noticeable that Van Gogh used
harshly exaggerated brush strokes around the lights of the Cafe and also the use of very bright
shades of red and green were purposefully overly planned to portray his view of the night

The Right For Same Sex Couples
As you know, since June 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the
right for same sex couples to marry in all 50 US states.
It is handing gay rights advocates their biggest victory yet. Although, the laws admit their rights,
some people still have some negative thought about LGBTQ. Our group chooses this topic and
this course of action because we want to inform the class and the community the hardships of
those in the LGBTQ community and their coming out stories. We hope to inspire others who are
in the closet to not be afraid of who they are and inspire society to respect the choices and actions
of the LGBTQ. Though we are all different in shape, skin color, personality and sexuality, we are
all human. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender individuals are among the groups, which
are particularly subjected to discrimination in many cultures and in many societies. There are still
75 countries where same sex sexual acts are still illegal (Itaborahy, p.9). So how hard for a LGBT
comes out. First we have to understand that for member of LGBT community, coming out is a
constant internal and external process that can sometime be met with pain, misunderstanding, and
hardship. They are coming out in many different ways in many different groups. However, there are
so many risks for them when they are coming out.
First, not every one will understand and accepting. It leads to many bad consequences such as
their relationships among family members or friends turn into a negative ways. They may be
kicked of their own home and got financial or emotional neglect from their family. According to a
study by Zack Ford, a editor of ThinkProgress LGBT at the Center for American Progress Action
Fund, 40 percent of homeless youth are LGBT. Moreover, his study pointed out more reason why
LGBTQ youth are homeless or at risk of because homeless such as 42 percent ran away because of
family rejection of sexual orientation or gender identity or 32 percent getting physical, emotional or
sexual abuse at home. This is a serious issue that destroys the

Age Related Macular Degeneration ( Amd )
Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is a clinical condition in which there is a progressive
decrease in central vision. There are two forms of macular degeneration, dry/nonexudative and wet
/exudative, and these differ in fundal findings and treatment options. Dry macular degeneration is
due to accumulation of drusen between the retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch s membrane and
eventually progresses to geographic atrophy. Geographic atrophy refers to loss of retinal pigment
epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptors. Wet macular degeneration, comprising up to 80% of cases of
macular degeneration, is due to neovascularization forming choroidal neovascular membranes,
which are unstable vessels leading to an array of complications including... Show more content on

One important direction of research was the association drawn between complement Factor H and
macular degeneration, which proposed that macular degeneration could be considered a much
broader systemic vascular disease. Factor H is a glycoprotein that aids in the inhibiting the
activation of the alternate pathway to prevent the host from activating the immune response
towards self antigens. The association between factor H and macular degeneration is so great
that a homozygous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) can increase the risk of developing
age related macular degeneration by seven fold and even a heterozygous SNP can increase the
risk two to three fold. Furthermore, deletions in the genes for complement factor H related 1 and
3, which compete with factor H for binding sites, have been demonstrated to protect against age
related macular degeneration by increasing the amount of binding sites available for complement
factor H to bind to the vasculature. Factor H has even been shown to be actively synthesized by
the RPE; gene products were generated from cultured RPE and real time RT PCR established that
transcripts for factor H were abundant in the RPE. The association is even clearer when clinically
examining patients with Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis II in which there is a
deficiency in factor H. These patients develop early onset drusen on fundal examination. Most
importantly, the association found between factor H and AMD stirred

1)Why do you believe you should be part of the staff team for Cyclone Network? I believe I
should be part of staff because I have noticed that there isn t much staff activity in sky block, but
there is tons of staff in prison, which I believe is great, but there should be more staff on
skyblock. Now thats where I come in. I will be on skyblock almost always and make sure everyone

Age And Gender Stereotypes
Age and gender play a role in the rate of recognition of known and unknown stimuli. Francois
Guillem and Melody Mograss (2004) conducted a continuous recognition memory task using male
and female participants between the ages of 20 35 years old. Participants were shown pictures of
unfamiliar faces and asked to identify whether they had or had not previously seen the face.
Research shows that females have a faster recognition rate for both familiar and unfamiliar stimuli
(Guillem et al,2004). Males process information or stimuli differently than females, in part due to
brain structure and activation of neurons, but also because males tend to maintain less information
and are quick to make decisions while females are more detail oriented

Federal And State Requirements For Building Evacuations
Abstract In this essay, federal and state requirements for building evacuations (preparation of
and conducting) are compared, with those of applicable NFPA guidelines. Best practices for
conducting evacuations are reviewed to determine what applicability the best practices have on
continuity of operations within my organization. The essential elements of emergency response
were evaluated in three categories; the written program, specific procedures related to
emergency response, and training. After evaluation of both the NFPA guidelines and OSHA
standards, it was determined that both should be used to develop an emergency action plan.
From major toxic gas releases to bombings there has been an incremental increase in recognition
to industrial accidents and how they can affect the lives of us all. The emergency planning
process can have serious ramifications on the people and the environment when it is not
managed appropriately (Erickson, 1999). September 11, 2001 the south tower of the World
Trade Center collapsed 56 minutes after being struck. Only 14 people that were in the impact
zone survived. If the use of high rise elevators had been evaluated people in that impact zone
could have possibly made it to the ground in as much time as 40 minutes which would have saved
numerous lives (Pigg, 2013, p.5). Tragedies like this are why it is important to respond to
emergencies in a way that minimizes harm to people and the risk mitigation starts by

Existentialism In The Truman Show By Peter Weir
In today s society sometimes people feel like they are being watched. They feel like cameras are
always around them and recording them. They feel people are making sure they are living life
correctly. This is wrong, people should be able to live without being afraid of someone watching
them. People should not control the life of others. The director of the tv show, Christof, uses this
quote: We accept the reality of the world with which were presented. It s as simple as that. In The
Truman Showby Peter Weir, Truman Burbank lives his life on tv set without knowing that his
whole life is fake. There are many symbols in The Truman Show that relate existentialism which is
a person s free will. The life of Truman and his world is just perfect. The Truman Show portrays the
theme of existentialism through symbolism, including Truman figuring out what is real, Christof
(the show s director) acting like God, and Christof controlling Truman s life.
The place where Truman lives is a fake place; it is just the set of a tv show. All of the actors
know they are acting, but Truman does not, that is what makes this show so real. He is just
living his life the way he thinks it should be. Everything about the show is fake, because
everything works well, everything is perfect. The weather in this show is fake because it rains
only in certain places. The sunset is always the same and is amazing. A storm comes out of
nowhere and objects fall out of the sky. Not only is the weather fake, but his relationships are
fake. He thinks that his wife in the show really loves him. His wife is a paid actress pretending
to love him. His parents are also paid actors, who even though are really his parents are not being
loving towards him, like parents should be. Truman s best friend acts kind to him and is there
for him, but has been lying to him since he was born. He says that he will always tell the truth,
but Christof is wanting Marlon to say that for the show. Marlon uses this quote when he talks to
Truman, I ve been your best friend since we were seven year old Truman . . . You re the closest
thing I ever had to a brother Truman! . . . But the point is, I d gladly walk in front of traffic for
you, Truman. And the last thing I d ever

The Culture Of The Gaming Culture
On November 9th, 1994, there was a chemical element called Darmstadtium. It s a radioactive
heavy metal that is name after the city Darmstadt, Germany where it was first found. It s a
manmade element that Yuri Oganessian Vladimir Utyonkov at the JINR made isotope 273 by
combining plutonium and sulfur together. Within the same year, Peter Armbruster and Gottfried
Munzenberg from the GSI unit uses lead and nickel to combine it with isotope 269 into the
previous isotope. With the combinations it created a new element and called it element 110. There
is still little known things about the element such as the boiling point and the melting point. I
noticed cultural events are something that has influenced me as I was growing up, such as my
mentioning about Cambodia. Since my mom is a refugee, those news were brought to her by a
friend who could understand English. It s because of her actions and mentioning Cambodia, it
gave me more of a connection with my culture. The gaming culture is something that has
influenced me heavily. With the releases of gaming consoles, my brother and I would play games
a lot. It eventually made me branch out to PC gaming and mobile gaming. Spongebob is a very
known cartoon here in the U.S. that influenced my childhood to interact with other kids by quoting
the shows. And because it s one of the longest running kid shows, my nine year old niece has a
connection with me by understanding the Spongebob references I made. It s interesting how

Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Essay
Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds
Since the advent of the theory of evolution the origin of birds has been a thriving topic in science.
Many ideas and hypotheses have been presented, but only two stand today: that birds are
descendents of ancient thecodont stem reptiles, and that birds are the direct descendents of a group
of dinosaurs known as the coelurosaurs. Both hypotheses pose many interesting and insightful ideas
based on information obtained from the fossil record. There is not enough evidence at this time to
determine which hypothesis, if either, is right. Only more hard work by scientists will tell. Until then
we have only speculation, but speculation based in observed evidence.
The origin of birds is one of the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theropods are a diverse group of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs (see cladogram). They include
the largest terrestrial carnivores ever to have walked the earth. Several characters typify a
theropod: hollow bones, three main fingers on the manus (hand), and three main (weight
bearing) toes on the pes (foot). Most theropods had sharp, recurved teeth useful for tearing flesh,
and claws were present on the ends of all of the fingers and toes (Hutchinson 2000). It is thought
that birds are descendents of the group of theropods known as the coelurosaur or maniraptora.
(There is debate as to whether these two groups should be one, so for the sake of this paper, I will
refer to them as coelurosaurs.) This group can be typified by such species as Velociraptor and
Deinonychus (Hutchinson 2000).
The other hypothesis is that birds arose much earlier than dinosaurs from a group known to be the
ancestors of theropods: the thecodonts (Dingus and Rowe 1998). Thecodonts were small, agile
reptiles with long tails and short forelimbs, thought to include the ancestral stock of all other
archosaurs, including birds, all dinosaurs, pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles), and crocodilians
(Anonymous 2000).
The Theropod Hypothesis
The theropod hypothesis puts the entry of birds into the evolutionary arena after the line of descent
had continued from thecodonts to the saurischian dinosaurs and their subsequent split into

The Effect Of Plasma On The Membrane Performance
Introduction When put under stress, at some point materials begin to decline and perform poorly.
Cell membranes are no different. The specific design and structure of plasma membranes allows for
the regular function of cells through transportation, facilitating reactions, and several other tasks
carried out by the cell membraneand endomembrane system. When put under physical or chemical
stress, however, the plasma membrane begins to falter and will eventually become unable to
perform its tasks, which are necessary to cell life. Using beet root tissue, the relationship between
membrane performance and temperature was tested. 3 samples of beet were prepared and placed in
a 50% methanol solution and exposed to temperatures above, below, and at room temperature. The
membrane s performance in repelling an unwanted solution in adverse conditions was measured by
the amount of damaged membranes, which resulted in increases in released pigments. This lab s
hypothesis is: varying temperature will have an inverse effect on the membrane performance. The
membrane will perform more poorly under increased heat than increased cold, but both changes in
temperature will negatively affect the performance of the membrane. This will be measured by
amount of light reflected by the spectrophotometer, reflecting how much pigment was given off,
and therefore how many membranes were compromised. The independent variable is the
temperature the sample is put through, and the controlled variables

British Imperialism in India Essay
Englishmen.. have given the people of India the greatest human blessing peace. (Dutt). Merely
coming to India in the 1600s to trade, the British East India Company established trading outposts.
After ridding of French influence in India during the Seven Years War and having Indians mutiny
against British rule, Britain gained full control of India. India has been under the imperialist control
of the British until their independence in 1947. British imperialism caused some negative effects
on India through poverty and persecution, but retained more of a positive impact due to its massive
improvements in the modernization of India and the overall improvement of Indian civilization.
Despite impacting India very positively, imperialism... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another way modernization is illustrated in India is through agriculture and industry,
notwithstanding the effects it had on Indians. Industry guided India to a much stronger economy,
arguably guiding them to holding a spot in the top ten economies in the world (O.I). Irrigation
cultivated approximately 30 million acres, awarding the country great agricultural wealth. Along
with wealth also came a disappearance of the famines in India. Collectively, the country of India as
a whole benefited from this modernization as it set a higher standard of living for the population. As
India s modernization developed, the entire civilization of India improved remarkably. The country
s improvement of civilization is exemplified through it s establishment of schools and law. Western
education was introduced by Britain and laws were well made with courts that enforce them. (Doc
3). One should take into account the speaker of this document because Romesh Dutt is an Indian
like any other, yet he praises the British for what they have done to contribute to the development of
India. In addition to these establishments is Britain bringing finer ideals of humanity to India.
Infanticide, the killing of female babies, was brought to a halt as well as participation in the slave
trade (Doc 5). Without the interference of Britain, these inhumane actions would be prevalent
throughout India and the country would suffer from a bad reputation. These

Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson And Death Of A Salesman
Fences by August Wilson and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller are two plays that are very
similar to each other. They are different in terms of plot, but they are both stories about family
conflicts and relationships between family members. In both plays, sport plays a big role in the
life of the characters as both sons of the main characters wish to play sports in school. Also, the
women in both plays have an unfortunate marriageas their husbands both had an affairand betrayed
their marriage. In addition to these similarities, death is also a strong concept; as both stories
end with the main character s funeral. Although there are many similarities in both plays such
as sports, marriage, and death; there are also many differences in these same themes. The
concept of sports plays a big role in both stories; as both main characters, Willy and Troy, have
sons who wish to play sports in school. But the sons, Cory and Biff, had very different reactions
from their fathers. Willy, was very supportive of the idea, whereas Troy, disagreed with it and
did everything in his power to stop it, and he succeed. Willy believed that if his son became a
famous athlete, he will have a bright future; however, this did not happen because Biff found out
about his affair. While Willy was supportive and understanding, Biff s father, Troy, was the
opposite of Willy. Troy did not want Cory to play sports due to his own experience in the past with
how he was treated when he wanted to

Jess Gough Case Summary
No. It was unethical for Jess Gough to set up and monitor Coates based on rumors and suspicious
behaviors and no tangible evidence. In choosing his course of action, Gough violated at least two
of the tenets of the Principle for Persons: he did not give each person sympathetic consideration,
regarded another person as a mere possession and treated them as expendables. Gough was more
concerned with proving Coates took part in committing industrial espionage instead of considering
the possible repercussions it could have on the employees he pressured to get involved. Gough also
did not consider that his actions might upset someone and treated them as an intangible item in
which could be used until his satisfaction was met and evidence against... Show more content on

Gough willingly decided to monitor Coates activities at work and had other employees engineer
a faulty routine for the new security software in order to set up Coates. Under no point was
Coates notified that he was being investigated for suspicious wrongdoings throughout these
activities. Further, Gough appears to have violated the ideal of prudence; he seemed to decide
quickly in his action by choosing to just react and monitor Coates work, without thoroughly
thinking through about what response would be most appropriate to the suspected allegations.
Gough also appeared to violated the ideal of fairness, as Gough did not follow, nor was he in
accordance with the rules or standards set in place for when allegations of suspicious
wrongdoings occur. Gough also unfairly put pressure upon his subordinates to monitor and set up
another coworker, which is not within their job description. Gough appeared to also violate the
ideal of temperance. Gough did not exercise control and succumbed to his desire to convict
Coates of industrial espionage as continued to set up Coates, after Gough s trusted aid was unable
to prove Coates was doing anything untoward. Lastly, Gough appeared to have violated the ideal
of justice. Gough did not evaluate the situation according to their merits and did not give Coates

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Fluidized Bed Reactor
Applying a coating to small particles can be done in a fluidized bed reactor [1]. The advantages
and disadvantages of fluidized bed reactors are given by Kunii and Levenspiel [1] with themain
advantages being:
Easily controlled operating due to liquid like behavior of particles.
High mass and heat transfer between gas phase and particles.
Fast mixing, which leads to resistance against rapid changes, making the process safer.
Coating of particles can be done on two different scales. On the nanoscale it can be done by Atomic
Layer
Deposition (ALD), applying mono atomic layers of coating to the particles, and on a larger scale
by Molecular

Research on capillary bridges has been done in the past, but was mainly focussed on the
stationary situation, instead of the dynamics of the formation. Expressions for the different
forces have been derived for different cases: between two spheres of equal radius [6], between
spheres of unequal radius [4, 7], between a sphere and plate [4, 6, 8 11], for a sphere in direct
contact with a flat plate [12 16], between a cone and a plate
[9] and between a cylinder and a plate [9]. Also the shape of capillary bridges is described for
different geometries of the particles: between two spheres [4, 6, 7, 17], between sphere and plate [4,
9, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19], between cone and plate [4], between two cones [4] and between a cylinder
and a plate [4]. An overview of their results is given in Appendix B.
This project will focus on the dynamics of capillary bridge formation and breakup in order to
obtain a better understanding of the time scales relevant to capillary bridges. Particles in a fluidized
bed that are clustered in agglomerates, and particularly the areas covered by capillary bridges, will
have a different exposure to the reactor conditions than the remaining particle surface, possibly
causing a difference in coating

Prenatal Screening And Prenatal Development
Throughout all of mankind s history all living beings have shared a common trait since their
conception, prenatal development. Prenatal development can easily be categorized as a
fascinating period of great anatomical and physiological progress. Yet, as time progresses and the
wonders of medical technology advance at a limitless pace, such a time has recently been viewed
as a period of constant and profound examinations for unborn infants. The term, prenatal
examinations, can be divided into the three categories of prenatal screenings, genetic screenings,
and diagnostic screenings. Prenatal screenings are primarily involved with the detections of the
possible abnormalities and conditions that may be displayed by the infants. However, it has been
vastly emphasized to be a non definitive diagnosis for most pregnancies. The normal and
recommended blood tests as well as ultrasounds throughout pregnancies classify as a realm of
prenatal screenings. Genetic screenings, considered by many to be a complex version of prenatal
screenings, examine the alterations of the chromosomes, genes, and proteins of the fetus. Currently,
genetic screenings are sub divided into three main categories, molecular genetic screenings,
chromosomal genetic screenings, and biochemical genetic screenings. Molecular screenings
examine the genes of a fetus in an attempt to recognize any mutations in the DNA of the fetus and
to detect the likelihood of the development of a genetic disorder. Chromosomal

was very level headed during all of the arguments and never got unhinged, making the perfect
shape for his personality a square. Next, the color of his figure (green) represents that he was a
loyal and unchanging with his opinion. After the 3rd time voting, he states, Not guilty (Twelve

headed and sure of himself. Since Juror 8 was so important, his shape size had to correlate.
Also, he had a gargantuan effect on all of the other characters throughout the whole storyline.
Juror 8 didn t force his opinion onto all of the other jurors, he just suggested and challenged their
statements. For instance, after the first time voting, Juror 8 says, I don t want to change your
mind. I just want to talk for awhile. Look, this boy s been kicked around all his life. You know,
living in a slum, his mother dead since he was nine. That s not a very good head start. He s a

The Seventh Crusade
Only fifteen years later Jerusalem fell to the Turks. Shortly after the ten year truce expired, the city
of Jerusalem came under attack by many of their enemies. This lead to the start of the Seventh
Crusade.
The Seventh Crusade (1239 1241) led to the Christians briefly regaining control of Jerusalem. The
Khwarezmians conquered Jerusalem just a few short years later. The Khwarezmians held Jerusalem
for nearly five years until King Louis IX led the Eighth Crusade.
The Eighth Crusade was called just sixteen years after the Seventh Crusade. The Mamluks were
very powerful in the Middle East and were conquering the little territory left that belonged to the
crusaders. Louis was persuaded by his brother, Charles of Anjou, to attack the Tunis first... Show

Jerusalem is where Jesus Christ was nailed to the cross and crucified for his crimes, blasphemy
against Judaism and for treason against Rome. In his youth, Jesus was brought to Jerusalem to
be presented at the Temple and to attend the Festivals of the Passover. Jesus preached to the poor
and the poor and healed the sick. Near the end of his life, Jesus was arrested, tried, and sentenced
to death in Jerusalem. Jesus death sentence was carried out, by crucifixion, at Golgotha; which is
traditionally located where the Church of the Holy Sepulchre stands today. From birth to death
and from death to rebirth, Jerusalem was a vital part of Jesus journey as a man and the Son of
God. The city of Jerusalem and the area surrounding it are heavily embedded in Christianity and
Judaism.
Judaism holds claim over Jerusalem because of the history of the Jewish people in Jerusalem.
According to the Tanakh, the Hebrew Bible, the First Temple was built by King Solomon, at the
site known as the Temple Mount today. The temple is believed to have been built by King
Solomon, who was the king of Israel and Judea, as a place of worship. Jerusalem is also the
location of Mount Moriah, which is where Abraham almost sacrificed his son and spoke with God.

The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction
The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction Aim We is going to investigate how
temperature effects the rate of reaction when we use a Magnesium Ribbon and dissolve it in
Hydrochloric Acid. Different Variables There are four different variables that effect the rate of
reaction, surface area, concentration, temperature and catalysts. Here is some information on
each variable with diagrams. How does surface area effect rate of reaction? In a substance the rate
of reaction will be quicker if it has a large surface area. However, if it has a small surface area the
rate of reaction is much slower. Rate of Reaction is much faster if the surface area is larger because

6) The Bunsen burner will be lit using a match, put on the blue flame and placed under the
beaker. 7) When the temperature reaches 25В°C, on the thermometer (It shouldn t take long as
it is around room temperature, anyway), we will take the test tube out of the water and place
one of the pieces of Magnesium Ribbon in the Hydrochloric Acid. We will start the stopwatch (a
stopwatch gives us very accurate readings when recording time) as soon as the Magnesium
Ribbon hits the Hydrochloric Acid. 8) When the Magnesium Ribbon has completely
disappeared, we shall stop the stopwatch and record the time it took for the Magnesium Ribbon
to disappear. 9) This process will be repeated for 25В°C, twice. Then we will do the same
experiment for the other temperatures, doing each temperature three times. The plan/method
above is a very good way of carrying out the experiment. This is because the rate of reaction is
effected by temperature. Using the Bunsen burner makes this plan a good way of carrying out
this experiment. As the Hydrochloric acid will be heated using the blue flame, it will heat up
faster so the results for each temperature can be obtained quickly. Also using a stopwatch makes
the plan a very good way of carrying out the experiment because it is very precise when recording
how long it takes for something to happen. List of equipment Here is a list of equipment that we

After the conduction of part A: changing the mass of this investigation it was revealed that the
relevant experiment s hypothesis was not proven. However, after the conduction of part B:
changing the surface area of this investigation it was revealed that the relevant experiment s
hypothesis was proven, and hence the gravitational acceleration slowed down with an increase in
surface area. A number of factors have been discovered regarding the impact masshas on
gravitational acceleration, investigated in part A. In table 1 it could be seen that the speeds at
which the masses fell were relatively similar, with some variance, the maximum being 0.29m/s. It

Secondly, this report will analyze the athlete s ability to perform during a practice. Tom Crawford,
interviewed by Charles Bethea (2015) says, I believe it (ultimate frisbee) can enhance human
existence. This is like everything that you would want to bake into a sport. The speed, quickness,
power. Women and men playing. Few disputes. And entertainment value. In one weekend I fell in
love with the sport and saw its huge potential.
It is important to be able to complete a task physically because it expresses the athlete s ability to
perform the skill and allows the coach to analyze their performance, the strong and weak stages

If the weather is sunny with no wind, both teams have an equal opportunity to play well
depending on each team s skill level. If the weather is windy, one team will have the advantage
over the other if they are not against the wind. Luckily, in ultimate frisbee, the teams switch end
zones after a point is scored, meaning that a team will not be scoring in the same end zone two
times in a row. Therefore, it is important that athletes are able to maintain control during
movement or stabilizing the body by performing muscular contractions to offset the effect of an
external force because ultimate frisbee is an open skilled sport. The coach considers the
possibility that all games are not in well suited weather, thus provides various drills that allows
athletes to experience the effects the weather has. For example, on windy days, it is recommended
to progress with short throws when the team is going against the wind. Players are close together

A Letter Written By The Apostle Paul
Ephesians is a letter written by the Apostle Paul during his imprisonment in Rome. This is the same
Paul who had previously persecuted the church, under the name Saul. Paul is not writing to a
particular church body, rather his intended audience was various churches in the surrounding
vicinity of Ephesus. His purpose was to encourage the faithful on The spiritual privileges of the
Church, and The spiritual responsibilities of the Church. Paul was addressing three issues facing
these growing church communities. 1) New Gentile converts were holding on to their old beliefs;
2) they had a need to cultivate a new lifestyle consistent with their salvation; and 3) the growing
tension between Gentile converts and Jewish Christians. With all... Show more content on

Christ himself gave...to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be
built up. You may be wondering why I did not mention the list of individuals mentioned earlier.
The reason is this passage carries much debate and I want to address it before we move forward.
There are two interpretations on this passage. The first interpretation uses the words And He
gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelist, and some as pastors and
teachers (NASB). This interpretation develops the idea that there are particular roles or offices
that Christ appoints individuals into. Therefore, some are gifted as apostles or prophets ect. The
second interpretation is that Christ gave all these individuals for the building of his body. This
problem exist because of grammer. Both the word some and the can modify the nouns apostles,
prophets ect. Although both interpretations possess validity, based on context the best
interpretation of the passage is the apostles, the prophets etc. I know I have taken a long time to
make this point but bare with me. The reason this detail matters, is that if we use the first
interpretation, then only a few believers are given these specific roles of ministry. The second
interpretation develops the idea that Christ gives all believers the ability to exercise the various
roles. In order, to equip his people for the building of his body. In addition,

The Great Thing About Art, By Giotto Di Bondone And Duccio...
The great thing about art, is that there are multiple portrayals of one idea but, the artist s own
personal style allows one to feel something that another may not. Early Renaissance painters,
Giotto di Bondone and Duccio di Buoninsegna established their own unique style to depict a
biblical scene known as, The Betrayal of Christ. Through a close analysis of each artist s
representation of, The Betrayal of Christ, one is able to compare and contrast the artists own
understanding of the scene through their attention to detail, character, and space throughout the
painting. When examining these two works, one will have a stronger emotional response
towards Giotto s interpretation rather Duccio s, due to his methods of handling organization,
figures, and space. Within each artist s painting, is a major scene within the Betrayal of Christ
known as, The Pact of Judas. This biblical story, is about one of Jesus s twelve disciples, Judas,
who agrees to give up Jesus for thirty silver coins. The chief priests, agree to pay Judas and decide
that the night before his crucifixion Judas would kiss Jesus so authorities could recognize him out
of the large crowd (King James, Matthew: 26). Once Judas realized, that Jesus was sentenced to die
due to his actions, he was remorseful and tried to return the coins to the priests and eventually hung
himself, due to his guilt (King James, Matthew: 26). Giotto and Duccio each painted their own
representations, of Judas receiving the thirty

By the time night came I just couldn t take any more. I looked out of my little attic window on

I wanted my own messy room . We can see that Weesle needed his family s support, his father s

first pages of the short story, we get the feeling that Ned is ashamed of his father s profession,

I m Chevy Chase And You re Not
FSEM FINAL PAPER: OPTION 2 Chapter 1: I m Chevy Chase and You re Not A classic
American icon, Chevy Chase had an incredible career brimming with accomplishments and
tribulations. The time spanning from 1975 to 1985 was a period in which America idolized
Chevy, a man who cruised through life with the perfect blend of cynicism, contempt, and charm.
Looking back, Chevy is considered one of the most hated comedians in the world, a close runner
up to Bill Cosby; however, nobody can deny Chevy s influence in comedy in film, the
development of SNL, or even the younger generation of comedians who aspired to be like him.
Since his start as an overnight star on SNL, throughout his movie star days, and as a sitcom cast
member, Chevy has repeatedly made headlines; he has ...insulted and assaulted co workers,
spouted racist, misogynistic, and homophobic views, and been described, even by those who
tolerate him, as a delusional egomaniac. (The Telegraph, Bernstein) Regardless of the things he
said and did on his rise to stardom, Chevy was named, The funniest man in America by New York
magazine in 1975. Today, Chevy is best known for hosting the segment the Weekend Update on
the premiere season of SNL as well as his starring role in the famous films National Lampoon s
Family Vacation, Fletch, and Caddyshack, though he is also known for hosting the oscars in 1987,

Beauty Is An Integral Part Of Human Nature
The concept of beauty is an integral part of human nature. For centuries men and women have
designated a part of each day dedicating their time to their physical appearance. In many cultures
beauty is made a priority of life. This is reflective of the expectations the media places on men
and women to have a certain look. What most do not realize is beauty is not just defined by the
aesthetic pleasure of faces, hair, bodies, and clothes, it is driven by many other factors. The
concept of beauty does not have to be tied down to the strict definition of what is visually
attractive, and should rather focus on many different aspects of the person as a whole to create a
definition of their beauty. There are many factors that contribute to what makes something or in the
case of this research, someone beautiful . The explanation for the perceptionof beauty in one s self
and in others is due in part to a biological, a psychological, and a cultural basis working hand in
hand to create what humans believe to be beauty. Perception of beauty is manipulated greatly by the
biological evolutionary influences on human nature. All of this stems from the deeply rooted
evolutionary need to reproduce. In particular, facial beauty of a femaleor a maleis important because
the one weapon men and women have to fulfill the ultimate goal of preserving their genes in
another generation is attraction. One must be perceived as beautiful first before any sexual
attraction can occur (Wilson, 2013).

The Structure of a Financial Crisis
INTRODUCTION
The year 2001 had been unlucky for Turkey. Apart from the crisis in 1994 and November 2000, the
country had to face another financial crisis, causing problems in the management of its economy.
Why does a country delve deep into financial crisis? What are the possible immediate triggers for
both the current and potential new crises? What precautions should be taken for the key issues like
the fragility of the financial and banking system, belated reforms and privatisation, rampant
corruption, exchange rate policy? And how can the governments satisfy the markets and people to

However, unlike the Transition Economies, Turkey embarked on a prospective plan to privatise a
major part of the public sector in the mid 80 s and laws enacting and enabling the privatisation of
the State Owned Enterprises (SOE) in late 1985, was an important breakthrough. In the 1990 s
privatisation went ahead but caused disappointment in many sectors. Most privatised firms could
not improve their performance and some that succeeded, had been profitable already as SOEs. But
that was not the only problem the country had to face. Turkey had already begun to face significant
problems regarding the Privatisation Policy in the 1990 s. These mentioned problems not only
aroused from the aggregate demand concerning the SOE, and the negative effect of investment but
the ongoing debate carried by the opposing political parties in the Parliament.
The governments have overcome several difficulties and successfully resumed privatisation in the
beginning of the second decade. Though the outcome was promising, the program proceeded more
slowly than the original plan. In 1993 for example, a net revenue of US$ 543 millions was raised
through several privatised firms including two electric companies, two communications equipment
manufacturers, a supermarket chain and four cement factories. In 1994 a total of approximately
US$ 412 million was

Media shapes the world we live in, through advertisements. Most women are working mothers
today. It is a frequent occurrence for a man to help out with daily chores; cooking dinner, cleaning,
and watching the children after school. Yet, many advertisements still depict women taking care of
the children, cleaning house and cooking dinner for the family. Many dads are picking their
children from school, taking them to sports practice, and picking them up afterwards. The van

Narmer held high the royal hat of his adversary while in the other he pressed him to the ground.
This was intended to connote a shift of power to Narmer, and the submission of the northern
kingdom to Narmer s government. This event distinctly marked the recognition of art in Egypt with
the palette being its most notable emblem. This palette, untill this day, is labelled Narmer s Palette.
Artists in the modern day have greatly drawn their inspiration from Egyptian culture. This culture

The product mix of business, which is generally defined as the total composite of products offered

Performance Enhancements In Sports Research Paper
Forms of performance enhancement have been filling the world of athletics since the beginning of
time. Humans, driven by their natural competitive instinct, have always craved the thrill of
winning. Morals become questioned, abilities become enhanced, records begin to be set and all
athletes want is more. Many believe that the severity of performance enhancing drugs in the world
of athletics is a fairly new concept. What they don t realize is that even as far back as 100 AD the
Roman Gladiators were finding different stimulants and hallucinogens to prevent fatigue and injury.
In fact, performance enhancements are not limited to just the humanathletes in competition either.
During the times of the incredible gladiators, they would feed trusted steeds a substance called
hydromel; an alcoholic beverage made from honey that would make them run even faster than
before. There s never been a time that gaining that extra edge hasn t been on the mind of our
beloved competitors.
It s no secret, people love a good show. For thousands of years people from near and far would
gather to watch incredible athletes exhibit their super human abilities. But why, as spectators, do we
find such entertainment in watching muscle ridden hulks of men throw around extreme amounts of
weight? Or why do we enjoy watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why do men and women set aside the knowledge of potential physical damage, public
humiliation and legal consequences all for that extra edge? Well, of course, the first thing that
comes to mind, also being the item that makes the world go around is: Money. Money leads too
worth and worth leads to fame. And what more does and an athlete want than to be famous?
Many believe that the easiest way to fulfil the life long dream that so many of us possess to
become a super hero is to become a professional athlete; kids will idolize you until the day you
die. Or maybe in this case the day your USADA administered drug test turns up positive and you re

How Did Technological Advancement Continue To Change The...
Technological innovations continue to change the workplace. The Industrialization changed
thousands of jobs as they became automated and controlled. What once was an enjoyable job
became boring and unskillful. Technological advancements required limited skills to complete a
task, leaving workers brutally bored with leisure time. However, Csikszentmihalyi explained
earlier that flow is only reached when a certain level of skill and challenge is present. As
technological innovations made their way into the workplace, workers became disrupted from
flow because their tasks did not involve skill. Unfortunately, the skill level lessened as challenges
continued to increase forcing workers to feel anxiety on the job. The job of an assembly line worker

Stereotypes Of African American Women Essay
Stereotypes of African American Women
A stereotype is a gross generalization of an entire people. Have you ever heard someone imply that
all police officers love donuts? This is an example of a common stereotype . It does have some
comedic value, but it obviously can t be true. Now consider a more serious stereotype about police
officers: that all caucasian officers are racist . This statement has no comedic value, and illustrates
the power of overgeneralization; it gives a bad reputation to all caucasian officers, and actually
has negative implications for officers of all skin colors. Where do you think the origin of this
particular stereotype is? The answer is other stereotypes. There actually are racist police officers,
and stereotypes fuel racism.
Cycles of gross generalizations create hatred, and promote inequality. For these reasons, they are
important to understand and discuss. For this assignment, I will explore the history and meaning
of three stereotypes of African American women outlined by Melissa Harris Perry in her book
Sister Citizen. I hope to attain a better understanding of the sociological and political forces behind
them. I will then apply what I learn to the film adaptation of The Help by Kathryn Stockett, a novel
about African American housemaids working in Jackson Mississippi during the 1960 s.
The first stereotype which Perry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Politics over Science On January 28, 1986, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) launched the space shuttle Challenger. The launch was held in Cape Canaveral, Florida, at
the Kennedy Space Center. The Challenger shuttle carried seven crew members, including pilots,
aerospace engineers and a citizen. Unfortunately, after it launched, the space shuttle broke apart and
hit the ocean. The failure of the mission traumatized the whole nation. In fact, millions of people
watched the shocking tragedy on television. This incident saddened the nation, and President
Ronald Reagan appointed some persons from different areas, such as engineers, pilots, politicians
and astronauts, to find the cause of this disaster. Although the investigation revealed that the main
reason for the disaster was because of technical issues. In actuality, the disaster was caused by the
decision to launch, which was driven by political pressures. The focus on political interest over
hard science was the reason for the Challenger disaster.
NASA launched the Challenger on January 28, 1986 in the cold temperature. Challenger was
initially made to be a test vehicle for collecting data, but surprisingly, with modifications and
additional testing, it became a spacecraft. NASA expanded the wings and connected it to external
tank to increase the capacity. The Challenger shuttle carried seven crew members and interestingly,

Women s Role In Greek Society
From hunter gathering societies to the Roman Empire, women all over the world have had
varying status. This status has fluctuated based on the culture of each society. Culture itself is
influenced by time, location, need and beliefs of the people. The great contrasts of women s
status can be seen with hunter gatherers, Greek civilizations, and Roman civilizations. It is truly
astounding to see how the same group of people are generally degraded and treated so differently
throughout history. For a long time prior to the first cities and agriculture, humans survived as
hunters and gatherers. In this lifestyle, men and women were both equally valued. Men would
hunt while women gathered and raised children, leading specialists to believe women were even
more voluble than men. As means of production began to evolve, so did the work and equality
between men and women. Men and women took on more laborious jobs, and as the difference
between male and female jobs became more concrete and clear. Men also began to take on a

women had the opportunity to have more freedom. Women were encouraged to be physically fit (in

The Characters Of Education In Atticus Finch And Bob Ewell
During the Great Depression in the 1930 s over twelve million people were unemployed causing
people to become poor and homeless. The Great Depression affected those who had education
and worsened the living conditions for those who were less educated. In the novel, To Kill a
Mockingbird, Harper Lee compares two completely different people, Atticus Finch and Bob Ewell
to display how education affected different social castes in society. In the 1930 s the Great
Depressioncame along as a tragic era making education forgotten as America faced other issues.
At this time, Atticus, a white man and a father of two kids strives to portray an example of how
important education is in a time of struggle. On the other hand the character Bob Ewell is, a
white man, is poor and extremely ignorant to the value education and believes it has no effect on
society. Atticus and Bob are men of different beliefs and values. [Through the characterization of
Atticus Finch and Bob Ewell the readers can believe compassion is reached through education,
which a man with compassion and education for their community can lead to humanity.] Atticus
is a well educated man as he demonstrates outstanding habits through his actions. After, Scout
asks why Atticus is defending Tom Robinson he say, For a number of reasons, the main one is, if
I didn t I couldn t hold up my head in town, I couldn t represent this county in the legislature, I
couldn t even tell you or Jem not to do something again. [...] Scout, simply by the nature of the
work, every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him personally. This one s
mine, I guess (Lee 56). Atticus, a man of great knowledge proves how respected he is in
Maycomb County. He points out that only men with knowledge and education are able to take
on a big responsible such as the one he is given. The purpose of this quote is to signify the
importance of education and how it lead him to such a high position in society. Compared to Bob
Ewell, Atticus contains the sification of how to action in times of importance. This affects the way
people view Atticus because now he s accepted and known as The Lawyer for Tom Robinson. For
example, after scout tells Atticus she doesn t want

substituent. The substituents para to the aromatic ring were a hydrogen, methyl group, fluorine,
bromine, and chlorine atoms. The varying para substituents influence on efficiency of separating a
racemic mixture into an enantioenriched reactant and product was assessed. The esters were
formed from a given set of ketones as the starting material and reduced into a racemic alcohol

The hydrogen and methyl substituents had the greatest E values, 12.4 and 10.8 respectively, when
compared to the halogen substituents whose E values ranged from ~8 4 (9). This apparent trend
depicting halogens to having the lowest enantioselectivity goes against the hypothesis that was
made stating that halogens, specifically the ester with a bromine substituent would have the
greatest enantioselectivity. Though halogens may have a lower enantioselectivity value, this is
mostly due to their %ee rather than the actual percent conversion from ester to alcohol. Furthermore
the esters with halogenic substituents had the greatest percent conversion from ester to alcohol:
bromine 73.0%, fluorine 43.0%, and chlorine 27.9% (9). This is compared to lower percent
conversion from the esters with a methyl or hydrogen substituent in the para position of the
benzene ring; values of 14.9% and 27.5% respectively (9). This would reflect that notion that since
the halogenic substituents are more electron withdrawing there was a greater inductive effect to
stabilize the tetrahedral intermediate, which lowers the activation energy resulting in a great
percent conversion of ester in to alcohol. However higher reactivity did not imply greater selectivity
for the R enantiomer. In contrast to the high percent

The Pros And Cons Of Cartoon Network
Something is happening here, and I m getting a little worried. But first, I m going to jump ahead
a bit and talk in general terms about how it is entirely feasible for us to do everything humanly
possible to cultivate people s minds and refine their judgment. Then, I ll back up and fill in some
of the details. Okay, so to start with the general stuff, Cartoon Network can pervert any
established ideology. It is for this reason that I find it hilarious that it would have the audacity to
even pretend that it s a wonderful, charitable organization. As we all know, the truth is that if
Cartoon Network doesn t realize that it s generally considered bad style to pilfer the national
treasure, then it should read one of the many self help books on the subject. I recommend it buy
one with big print and lots of pictures. Maybe then Cartoon Network will grasp the concept that
we are in trouble when hitherto reputable people recover the dead past by annihilating the living
present. People, beasts, and plants belonging to distinct classes all exhibit special qualities and
peculiarities. Unfortunately, Cartoon Network s special quality is that it swears that it acts in the
name of equality and social justice. Despite the emphasis that it places on that asseveration, we
all know that it s a willful, malicious, and deliberate lie that serves only to prove that Jacobinism
is a kind of prison. It is also, paradoxically, a haven. It is at once confining and empowering. And

  • 2. Road Pricing Necessary, Unhealthy Rhetorical Analysis In Daniel Wood s article Road Pricing Necessary, Contentious and coming to Vancouver, he provides a glimpse into the possible uproar that will come of introducing road pricing to the city of Vancouver. The masses of people who commute by transit have to pay for it while drivers on the other hand, pay nothing to use the roads. Woods goes on to describe examples of how drivers get charged for using the roads in other parts of the world and how it helps to reduce congestion and encourage the use of public transit. Woods states that in Vancouver, the roads have been free since the beginning of time. Consequentially, the public does not really comprehend the concept of roadpricing let alone have any experience with it and without the proper education, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Van Gogh In The Yale Art Gallery This painting depicts a regular cafГ© at night, with the dimensions of 72.4 x 92.1 cm (28 1/2 x 36 1/4 and an accession number of 1961.18.34 this panting stands out amongst other paintings because of how the myriad of colors and hues mix that causes a clash in contrast. In the Yale Art Gallery, this oil paintingwas in the American room among other American crafts. The thing that quickly caught my eye on this painting was the way Van Gogh applied detail, creativity and the unorthodox use of colors. The painting seemed to be dark and gloomy which was quite a unique quality about the painting. Van Gogh is one of the most famous expressionist artists that people know and love today. This oil painting on a canvas has been called one of Van Gogh s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s almost as if the waiter is staring directly at the viewer of the painting. Subjectively, this painting stood out to me and even more when I had seen it. This painting had a quite abnormal perspective in a way that the cafГ© floor covers a large area of the canvas that Van Gogh painted on. It appeared as if the artist that painted this piece achieved a high vantage point because it looks as if he was suspended in the air while painting. Looking at the Clock in the CafГ© it was almost 1am and this is why the gas lighting was on, and it allowed the cafe to stay opened very late. As the viewer can observe from the painting, the whole environment in the Night Cafe is not so happy and warm. The space itself seemed so isolated and shadowy even the people in the painting had their heads hung almost as if they were sad. Although Van Gogh used redwhich usually is a quite ecstatic color the addition of red, dark green and dark orange just created an environment that wasn t so welcoming. Also, the use of Van Gogh s brushstroke had also added another dark feeling to the painting. In this painting, it is very noticeable that Van Gogh used harshly exaggerated brush strokes around the lights of the Cafe and also the use of very bright shades of red and green were purposefully overly planned to portray his view of the night ... • 4. The Right For Same Sex Couples As you know, since June 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same sex couples to marry in all 50 US states. It is handing gay rights advocates their biggest victory yet. Although, the laws admit their rights, some people still have some negative thought about LGBTQ. Our group chooses this topic and this course of action because we want to inform the class and the community the hardships of those in the LGBTQ community and their coming out stories. We hope to inspire others who are in the closet to not be afraid of who they are and inspire society to respect the choices and actions of the LGBTQ. Though we are all different in shape, skin color, personality and sexuality, we are all human. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender individuals are among the groups, which are particularly subjected to discrimination in many cultures and in many societies. There are still 75 countries where same sex sexual acts are still illegal (Itaborahy, p.9). So how hard for a LGBT comes out. First we have to understand that for member of LGBT community, coming out is a constant internal and external process that can sometime be met with pain, misunderstanding, and hardship. They are coming out in many different ways in many different groups. However, there are so many risks for them when they are coming out. First, not every one will understand and accepting. It leads to many bad consequences such as their relationships among family members or friends turn into a negative ways. They may be kicked of their own home and got financial or emotional neglect from their family. According to a study by Zack Ford, a editor of ThinkProgress LGBT at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, 40 percent of homeless youth are LGBT. Moreover, his study pointed out more reason why LGBTQ youth are homeless or at risk of because homeless such as 42 percent ran away because of family rejection of sexual orientation or gender identity or 32 percent getting physical, emotional or sexual abuse at home. • 5. Age Related Macular Degeneration ( Amd ) Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is a clinical condition in which there is a progressive decrease in central vision. There are two forms of macular degeneration, dry/nonexudative and wet /exudative, and these differ in fundal findings and treatment options. Dry macular degeneration is due to accumulation of drusen between the retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch s membrane and eventually progresses to geographic atrophy. Geographic atrophy refers to loss of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptors. Wet macular degeneration, comprising up to 80% of cases of macular degeneration, is due to neovascularization forming choroidal neovascular membranes, which are unstable vessels leading to an array of complications including... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One important direction of research was the association drawn between complement Factor H and macular degeneration, which proposed that macular degeneration could be considered a much broader systemic vascular disease. Factor H is a glycoprotein that aids in the inhibiting the activation of the alternate pathway to prevent the host from activating the immune response towards self antigens. The association between factor H and macular degeneration is so great that a homozygous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) can increase the risk of developing age related macular degeneration by seven fold and even a heterozygous SNP can increase the risk two to three fold. Furthermore, deletions in the genes for complement factor H related 1 and 3, which compete with factor H for binding sites, have been demonstrated to protect against age related macular degeneration by increasing the amount of binding sites available for complement factor H to bind to the vasculature. Factor H has even been shown to be actively synthesized by the RPE; gene products were generated from cultured RPE and real time RT PCR established that transcripts for factor H were abundant in the RPE. The association is even clearer when clinically examining patients with Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis II in which there is a deficiency in factor H. These patients develop early onset drusen on fundal examination. Most importantly, the association found between factor H and AMD stirred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Age And Gender Stereotypes Age and gender play a role in the rate of recognition of known and unknown stimuli. Francois Guillem and Melody Mograss (2004) conducted a continuous recognition memory task using male and female participants between the ages of 20 35 years old. Participants were shown pictures of unfamiliar faces and asked to identify whether they had or had not previously seen the face. Research shows that females have a faster recognition rate for both familiar and unfamiliar stimuli (Guillem et al,2004). Males process information or stimuli differently than females, in part due to brain structure and activation of neurons, but also because males tend to maintain less information and are quick to make decisions while females are more detail oriented ... • 8. Federal And State Requirements For Building Evacuations Abstract In this essay, federal and state requirements for building evacuations (preparation of and conducting) are compared, with those of applicable NFPA guidelines. Best practices for conducting evacuations are reviewed to determine what applicability the best practices have on continuity of operations within my organization. The essential elements of emergency response were evaluated in three categories; the written program, specific procedures related to emergency response, and training. After evaluation of both the NFPA guidelines and OSHA standards, it was determined that both should be used to develop an emergency action plan. From major toxic gas releases to bombings there has been an incremental increase in recognition to industrial accidents and how they can affect the lives of us all. The emergency planning process can have serious ramifications on the people and the environment when it is not managed appropriately (Erickson, 1999). September 11, 2001 the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed 56 minutes after being struck. Only 14 people that were in the impact zone survived. If the use of high rise elevators had been evaluated people in that impact zone could have possibly made it to the ground in as much time as 40 minutes which would have saved numerous lives (Pigg, 2013, p.5). Tragedies like this are why it is important to respond to emergencies in a way that minimizes harm to people and the risk mitigation starts by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Existentialism In The Truman Show By Peter Weir In today s society sometimes people feel like they are being watched. They feel like cameras are always around them and recording them. They feel people are making sure they are living life correctly. This is wrong, people should be able to live without being afraid of someone watching them. People should not control the life of others. The director of the tv show, Christof, uses this quote: We accept the reality of the world with which were presented. It s as simple as that. In The Truman Showby Peter Weir, Truman Burbank lives his life on tv set without knowing that his whole life is fake. There are many symbols in The Truman Show that relate existentialism which is a person s free will. The life of Truman and his world is just perfect. The Truman Show portrays the theme of existentialism through symbolism, including Truman figuring out what is real, Christof (the show s director) acting like God, and Christof controlling Truman s life. The place where Truman lives is a fake place; it is just the set of a tv show. All of the actors know they are acting, but Truman does not, that is what makes this show so real. He is just living his life the way he thinks it should be. Everything about the show is fake, because everything works well, everything is perfect. The weather in this show is fake because it rains only in certain places. The sunset is always the same and is amazing. A storm comes out of nowhere and objects fall out of the sky. Not only is the weather fake, but his relationships are fake. He thinks that his wife in the show really loves him. His wife is a paid actress pretending to love him. His parents are also paid actors, who even though are really his parents are not being loving towards him, like parents should be. Truman s best friend acts kind to him and is there for him, but has been lying to him since he was born. He says that he will always tell the truth, but Christof is wanting Marlon to say that for the show. Marlon uses this quote when he talks to Truman, I ve been your best friend since we were seven year old Truman . . . You re the closest thing I ever had to a brother Truman! . . . But the point is, I d gladly walk in front of traffic for you, Truman. And the last thing I d ever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Culture Of The Gaming Culture On November 9th, 1994, there was a chemical element called Darmstadtium. It s a radioactive heavy metal that is name after the city Darmstadt, Germany where it was first found. It s a manmade element that Yuri Oganessian Vladimir Utyonkov at the JINR made isotope 273 by combining plutonium and sulfur together. Within the same year, Peter Armbruster and Gottfried Munzenberg from the GSI unit uses lead and nickel to combine it with isotope 269 into the previous isotope. With the combinations it created a new element and called it element 110. There is still little known things about the element such as the boiling point and the melting point. I noticed cultural events are something that has influenced me as I was growing up, such as my mentioning about Cambodia. Since my mom is a refugee, those news were brought to her by a friend who could understand English. It s because of her actions and mentioning Cambodia, it gave me more of a connection with my culture. The gaming culture is something that has influenced me heavily. With the releases of gaming consoles, my brother and I would play games a lot. It eventually made me branch out to PC gaming and mobile gaming. Spongebob is a very known cartoon here in the U.S. that influenced my childhood to interact with other kids by quoting the shows. And because it s one of the longest running kid shows, my nine year old niece has a connection with me by understanding the Spongebob references I made. It s interesting how cartoons ... • 11. Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Essay Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Since the advent of the theory of evolution the origin of birds has been a thriving topic in science. Many ideas and hypotheses have been presented, but only two stand today: that birds are descendents of ancient thecodont stem reptiles, and that birds are the direct descendents of a group of dinosaurs known as the coelurosaurs. Both hypotheses pose many interesting and insightful ideas based on information obtained from the fossil record. There is not enough evidence at this time to determine which hypothesis, if either, is right. Only more hard work by scientists will tell. Until then we have only speculation, but speculation based in observed evidence. The origin of birds is one of the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theropods are a diverse group of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs (see cladogram). They include the largest terrestrial carnivores ever to have walked the earth. Several characters typify a theropod: hollow bones, three main fingers on the manus (hand), and three main (weight bearing) toes on the pes (foot). Most theropods had sharp, recurved teeth useful for tearing flesh, and claws were present on the ends of all of the fingers and toes (Hutchinson 2000). It is thought that birds are descendents of the group of theropods known as the coelurosaur or maniraptora. (There is debate as to whether these two groups should be one, so for the sake of this paper, I will refer to them as coelurosaurs.) This group can be typified by such species as Velociraptor and Deinonychus (Hutchinson 2000). The other hypothesis is that birds arose much earlier than dinosaurs from a group known to be the ancestors of theropods: the thecodonts (Dingus and Rowe 1998). Thecodonts were small, agile reptiles with long tails and short forelimbs, thought to include the ancestral stock of all other archosaurs, including birds, all dinosaurs, pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles), and crocodilians (Anonymous 2000). The Theropod Hypothesis The theropod hypothesis puts the entry of birds into the evolutionary arena after the line of descent had continued from thecodonts to the saurischian dinosaurs and their subsequent split into ... The specific design and structure of plasma membranes allows for the regular function of cells through transportation, facilitating reactions, and several other tasks carried out by the cell membraneand endomembrane system. When put under physical or chemical stress, however, the plasma membrane begins to falter and will eventually become unable to perform its tasks, which are necessary to cell life. Using beet root tissue, the relationship between membrane performance and temperature was tested. 3 samples of beet were prepared and placed in a 50% methanol solution and exposed to temperatures above, below, and at room temperature. The membrane s performance in repelling an unwanted solution in adverse conditions was measured by the amount of damaged membranes, which resulted in increases in released pigments. This lab s hypothesis is: varying temperature will have an inverse effect on the membrane performance. The membrane will perform more poorly under increased heat than increased cold, but both changes in temperature will negatively affect the performance of the membrane. This will be measured by amount of light reflected by the spectrophotometer, reflecting how much pigment was given off, and therefore how many membranes were compromised. The independent variable is the temperature the sample is put through, and the controlled variables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Merely coming to India in the 1600s to trade, the British East India Company established trading outposts. After ridding of French influence in India during the Seven Years War and having Indians mutiny against British rule, Britain gained full control of India. India has been under the imperialist control of the British until their independence in 1947. Another way modernization is illustrated in India is through agriculture and industry, notwithstanding the effects it had on Indians. Industry guided India to a much stronger economy, arguably guiding them to holding a spot in the top ten economies in the world (O.I). Irrigation cultivated approximately 30 million acres, awarding the country great agricultural wealth. Along with wealth also came a disappearance of the famines in India. Collectively, the country of India as a whole benefited from this modernization as it set a higher standard of living for the population. As India s modernization developed, the entire civilization of India improved remarkably. The country s improvement of civilization is exemplified through it s establishment of schools and law. Western education was introduced by Britain and laws were well made with courts that enforce them. (Doc 3). One should take into account the speaker of this document because Romesh Dutt is an Indian like any other, yet he praises the British for what they have done to contribute to the development of India. In addition to these establishments is Britain bringing finer ideals of humanity to India. • 19. Prenatal Screening And Prenatal Development Throughout all of mankind s history all living beings have shared a common trait since their conception, prenatal development. Prenatal development can easily be categorized as a fascinating period of great anatomical and physiological progress. Yet, as time progresses and the wonders of medical technology advance at a limitless pace, such a time has recently been viewed as a period of constant and profound examinations for unborn infants. The term, prenatal examinations, can be divided into the three categories of prenatal screenings, genetic screenings, and diagnostic screenings. Prenatal screenings are primarily involved with the detections of the possible abnormalities and conditions that may be displayed by the infants. However, it has been vastly emphasized to be a non definitive diagnosis for most pregnancies. The normal and recommended blood tests as well as ultrasounds throughout pregnancies classify as a realm of prenatal screenings. Genetic screenings, considered by many to be a complex version of prenatal screenings, examine the alterations of the chromosomes, genes, and proteins of the fetus. Currently, genetic screenings are sub divided into three main categories, molecular genetic screenings, chromosomal genetic screenings, and biochemical genetic screenings. Molecular screenings examine the genes of a fetus in an attempt to recognize any mutations in the DNA of the fetus and to detect the likelihood of the development of a genetic disorder. For centuries men and women have designated a part of each day dedicating their time to their physical appearance. In many cultures beauty is made a priority of life. This is reflective of the expectations the media places on men and women to have a certain look. What most do not realize is beauty is not just defined by the aesthetic pleasure of faces, hair, bodies, and clothes, it is driven by many other factors. The concept of beauty does not have to be tied down to the strict definition of what is visually attractive, and should rather focus on many different aspects of the person as a whole to create a definition of their beauty. There are many factors that contribute to what makes something or in the case of this research, someone beautiful . The explanation for the perceptionof beauty in one s self and in others is due in part to a biological, a psychological, and a cultural basis working hand in hand to create what humans believe to be beauty. Perception of beauty is manipulated greatly by the biological evolutionary influences on human nature. All of this stems from the deeply rooted evolutionary need to reproduce. In particular, facial beauty of a femaleor a maleis important because the one weapon men and women have to fulfill the ultimate goal of preserving their genes in another generation is attraction. Though halogens may have a lower enantioselectivity value, this is mostly due to their %ee rather than the actual percent conversion from ester to alcohol. Furthermore the esters with halogenic substituents had the greatest percent conversion from ester to alcohol: bromine 73.0%, fluorine 43.0%, and chlorine 27.9% (9). This is compared to lower percent conversion from the esters with a methyl or hydrogen substituent in the para position of the benzene ring; values of 14.9% and 27.5% respectively (9). This would reflect that notion that since the halogenic substituents are more electron withdrawing there was a greater inductive effect to stabilize the tetrahedral intermediate, which lowers the activation energy resulting in a great percent conversion of ester in to alcohol. However higher reactivity did not imply greater selectivity for the R enantiomer. In contrast to the high percent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Pros And Cons Of Cartoon Network Something is happening here, and I m getting a little worried. But first, I m going to jump ahead a bit and talk in general terms about how it is entirely feasible for us to do everything humanly possible to cultivate people s minds and refine their judgment. Then, I ll back up and fill in some of the details. Okay, so to start with the general stuff, Cartoon Network can pervert any established ideology. It is for this reason that I find it hilarious that it would have the audacity to even pretend that it s a wonderful, charitable organization. As we all know, the truth is that if Cartoon Network doesn t realize that it s generally considered bad style to pilfer the national treasure, then it should read one of the many self help books on the subject. I recommend it buy one with big print and lots of pictures. Maybe then Cartoon Network will grasp the concept that we are in trouble when hitherto reputable people recover the dead past by annihilating the living present. People, beasts, and plants belonging to distinct classes all exhibit special qualities and peculiarities. Unfortunately, Cartoon Network s special quality is that it swears that it acts in the name of equality and social justice. Despite the emphasis that it places on that asseveration, we all know that it s a willful, malicious, and deliberate lie that serves only to prove that Jacobinism is a kind of prison. It is also, paradoxically, a haven. It is at once confining and empowering. And in the absence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
