4. ENGAGEMENT WORKS
“Just asking your child how was their school day
and showing genuine interest in the learning that
they are doing can have the same impact as hours of
private tutoring.”
Andreas Schleicher, Head of Indicators and Analysis Division, OECD
5. THE HIGH LEVEL
MISSION
“Do what's necessary to give every child a chance to
succeed. That responsibility begins not in our classrooms,
but in our homes and communities. It's family that first
instils the love of learning in a child.”
(President Barack Obama: State Of The Union Address, January 2011)
6. FAMILY ENGAGEMENT IN EDUCATION
ACT OF 2011
To strengthen families' engagement in the education of their children
“Family engagement can raise student
academic achievement so substantially that
schools would need to increase spending by
more than $1,000 per pupil to gain the same
results.”
Sponsors: Rep. Todd Platts (R-PA19), Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY4)

18. EDSBY HELPS
EDUCATORS
"I really, really want my kids to do well.
In class, in school, in life. But I don't
really have any time at all to do any
extra work. And the systems I have to
work with are so hard to use I just sort of
give up."
19. EDSBY HELPS
LEARNERS
“I lost my math assignment again and
my mom got really mad. And I think that
printing stuff and sending it home is
really bad for the environment.”
20. EDSBY HELPS
PARENTS
"Last term Julie almost failed
math, and the first we knew
was when we saw her report
card. Can't we get information
like this sooner?"
21. EDSBY HELPS
ADMINISTRATORS
"I want to make a difference, to
provide leadership. But I sometimes
feel like I'm in an impossible
position. And when parents call,
I don't always have the answers."
The Family Engagement in Education act is a bill introduced to congress specifically to close the achievement gap through family engagmenet
In Canada, the province of Ontario have produced a report called Parents in Partnership outlining their vision for family engagement
At the same time, the technology landscape has changed dramatically in the last few years. We’re all hearing the terms: Cloud, mobile, personal devices, etc.
And so of course, the question is how do we pull all this together in a way that makes sense, is easy to use, and provides real value for all the stakeholders?
Another important function is that as students reach middle & high school, they are moving from class-to-class and therefore issues in one place may not be visible to other teachers – this compartmentalization can allow some students to slip through the cracks, where a better coordinated effort might catch problems sooner.
In addition, Edsby can provide collaboration spaces for teachers and administrators,
And last,Edsby is designed to work with the systems you already have by supporting as many open standards as possible. This includes things like Active Directory integration, use of SIF for data exchange, etc.
