Dónde vs. Adónde. Dónde means WHERE. When dónde is used, it is usually in relation to where someone IS LOCATED RIGHT THEN. Ex: ¿ Dónde estás tú ? Yo estoy en la biblioteca . Where are the students? ¿ Dónde están los estudiantes ? The students are IN THE SCHOOL.

  1. Dónde vs. Adónde Dónde means WHERE. When dónde is used, it is usually in relation to where someone IS LOCATED RIGHT THEN. Ex: ¿Dóndeestástú? Yoestoy en la biblioteca. Where are the students? ¿Dóndeestán los estudiantes? The students are IN THE SCHOOL. Los estudiantesestán en la escuela.

  2. Dónde When you use the word dónde, you usually use a form of ESTAR: to be located in a place. Where is the chalk? ¿Dóndeestá la tiza? The chalk is in my backpack. La tizaestá en mi mochila. Dónde is used for CURRENT LOCATION.

  3. Adónde Remember how we use “At what time?” for asking what time something happens? You do a similar thing when you ask TO WHERE someone is going. Adónde = to where Adónde is used for FUTURE DESTINATION.

  4. Adónde Since adónde is used for destination (saying where you are going) then which verb that we just learned do you think we will use with Adónde? The verb IR A common question is, Where are you going? ¿Adónde vas tú?

  5. Dónde vs. Adónde So, how can we tell which one to use? A good phrase: ¿Dóndeestás, adónde vas? (Where are you now, and where are you going?) If the answer has the word “en,” chances are, the person is there now (location) If the answer has the word “a,” chances are, the person is GOING THERE later (destination)
