SJS Organic Farm Center for Excellence: Nurturing Sustainable Agriculture for a Greener Tomorrow
The St. Joseph Sustainable (SJS) Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) Farm, Center for Excellence, responds to Pope Francis' call in "Laudato Si" to care for our common home. Established in 2017 in Tanzania, East Africa, SJS promotes sustainable and organic farming practices aligned with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and the teachings of Laudato Si and Laudate Deum apostolic exhortation.
Located in Mwanga, Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania, SJS Organic Farm is integral to the Socio-Economic Development Mission of the Society of Mangalore Africa Mission (SMAM). Over the past five years, it has evolved into an "Organic Knowledge Hub," specializing in various natural farming technologies.
Key initiatives include One Acre Agroforestry Family Farming, Livestock Keeping, Apiculture, Aquaculture, and Rural Technology. Training modules cater to farmers, youth, and women, with a focus on small landholding farmers.
SJS collaborates with organizations like the Watoto Foundation and NMAIST, Arusha, for research, and with Phalada Tanzorganic for International Organic Certification. It pioneers concepts like the Miyawaki urban forest and Agro-clinic Micro-industry to combat climate challenges and foster rural development.

Our primary focus at SJS Organic is Training the Trainers, Farmers and Youth in Ecological-Sustainable-Organic Agriculture and Rural Technology along with Effective Microorganism (EM) Technology to produce authentic Organic Products; promoting Agripreneurship to counter unemployment and to promote Green Economy to usher in financial freedom to the farmers.
