International Rural Women's Day celebration in Nguibassal, Cameroon - 15 Oct 2022
A rural woman from Dibang Afrura celebrates the International Day showing off a massive cassava manioc shrub. International Day of Rural Women celebrated in Cameroon and the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family launched the celebrations in Nguibassal, Centre Cameroon. The International Day was established by the United Nations and first observed in 2008. Among the celebrants were close to 2000 rural women from communities such as Ngog-Mapubi, Bondjock, Makak, Dibang and others. In a world with intensified gender disparities in which women face issues with livestock ownership, equal pay, participation in decision-making and access to resources and credit, empowering women in rural areas is crucial to end food insecurity and poverty.
