Caroline Kennedy Was Walked Down the Aisle by This Stand-in for Her Dad, JFK & Jackie Kennedy’s Reaction Was Adorable

Caroline Kennedy‘s 1986 wedding to Edwin Schlossberg might be the closest America has ever gotten to a royal wedding.

When it comes to American dynasty families, there is no one quite like the Kennedys so the world couldn’t look away when it came time for Jackie Kennedy and John F. Kennedy’s eldest daughter to tie the knot.

Having watched Caroline grow up from the moment she entered the White House after her father became president when she was just three years old, the American people had become invested in her life.

A 28-year-old Caroline, who now serves as the United States Ambassador to Australia, married Schlossberg on July 19 — her new husband’s 41st birthday — in a small Catholic ceremony in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, the Cape Cod community where the Kennedys own a multi-home compound to this day.

She and Schlossberg, an exhibit designer, met while working at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where Caroline worked after graduating from Harvard.

The couple, who celebrated 37 years of marriage this past summer, share three children — Rose Kennedy Schlossberg (born 1988), Tatiana Celia Kennedy Schlossberg (born 1990), and John Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg, known as Jack (born 1993).

Much to the surprise of the public, Caroline’s wedding was kept under wraps until the big day — though some photographers were still able to snap some photos outside the church.

Without the presence of her father, who was assassinated when Caroline was just 5 years old, the day was no doubt bittersweet. But with a stand-in to walk her down the aisle and the support of her mother and younger brother, John F. Kennedy Jr, Caroline’s wedding appeared joyous and celebratory.
