      Critics Consensus

A gripping mystery that draws immense power from its sterling cast and the specificity of its location, Sherwood is such a rich series that it makes the competition look all the poorer.

Suzy D Ultimately, the intriguing plot and excellent cast pulled me in, but I almost gave up after the first two episodes which were too slow and plodding. Once the plot picked up beginning in the third episode though, I was hooked. The slow burn of decades of resentment in the community added drama to what could have been a fairly procedural police drama, and the twists in the later episodes kept it interesting to the very end. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Corey M Soap style garbage. Probably great if you like days of our lives... pause, pause, dialogue, pause, next person, pause, dialogue, pause. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review Patrick K Stunning. Great actors. Clever plot. Well thought out. I wasn't expecting how good it would be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/19/23 Full Review David E Great storyline and strong acting performance from varied cast Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/23 Full Review Mike C This has proven to be one of the best in its genre. What stands out and really the beauty of the show are the separate stories and character build. There are multiple story lines here....the question is will they ultimately intersect and connect to an event in 1984. Very well done Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/07/23 Full Review Gareth v A clever, well-written show that combines decades of hurt and resentment with the hunt for a macarbe killer. It is only letdown by some corny scenes in it's final couple of episodes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Debi Enker The Age (Australia) As a murder mystery, Sherwood offers everything that a quality crime drama should. It’s laced with juicy hooks, twists and revelations, and has a vivid sense of place. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 21, 2023 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It’s such a common commission that the description is almost boilerplate, but in this quietly gripping thriller it’s merely the outline for a story that reveals how the collective trauma of the past can overwhelm the present day. Rated: 4/5 Nov 10, 2022 Full Review Graeme Blundell The Australian It’s going to be fascinating to discover, as the cat-and-mouse chase into the forest unfolds, just how it all plays out. Aug 23, 2022 Full Review Keith Watson metro.co.uk A murder story, a slice of social history and a forensic investigation of policing policy all rolled into one in James Graham’s powerful study of a mining community grappling with the bitterness of the past. Dec 26, 2022 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Sherwood might just be the most compelling crime drama to come out of the UK since Broadchurch. Jul 13, 2022 Full Review Paul Whitington Irish Independent In the best police thrillers, the crime itself is incidental to the characters who respond to it. This is certainly true of Sherwood.
