All Boys Aren't Blue Nominated for Daytime Emmy

The film "All Boys Aren't Blue," based on the New York Times bestselling memoir by George M. Johnson, has been nominated for Outstanding Daytime Special by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) as part of the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards.

The film, directed and adapted by Nathan Hale Williams, is a poetic visual representation of growing up Black and non-binary. It highlights three pivotal moments in George's life that shaped their understanding of their place in the world. The official theme song, "All Boys Aren't Blue," was written and performed by R&B singer Julian King.

Julian King is a proud purveyor of heartfelt next-gen R&B. He's a Philadelphia native, proud Aquarius, and preacher's kid known for his virtuosic vocals, dance moves to die for, and skillful musicianship on piano. When Julian first read Johnson's book, he had no way of knowing that this journey would lead to him being part of an Emmy® nominated team.

"Back at the beginning of the pandemic, I remember feeling so much emotion late one night after I'd finished the novel "All Boys Aren't Blue," and being so moved," King says. "I wrote a song inspired by the book and also about what I was experiencing during that time. I hunted down the book's author, George M. Johnson, found their email, and sent them the song. I never thought it would see the light of day, let alone be released. Here we are years later, and my track is the official theme song for the film inspired by the book, and we are now Emmy® nominated."

King was on Team Legend on the NBC television series "The Voice." This year Julian was the runner-up in the Billboard and Samsung NXT 2.0 contest. He was a House of Pride McDonald’s featured performer. Julian King was featured in a Timberland Black History Campaign and was seen in VOGUE Italia three times. He's opened up for Daley, Talib Kweli, Mary J Blige, and most will be opening for, Keshia Cole as part of RnB Fest. And the single "All Boys Aren't Blue” received 2022 GLAAD recognition.

"As I look back on this entire process, it's the definition of "organic." Every puzzle piece fell into place. From Ty Jamz producing the track, Nathan Hale commissioning it for the film, and the countless PRIDE Festivals and performances I've sung this record at. It's truly become like the soundtrack to my life and now so many others. To be part of an Emmy® nominated film is something I didn't even think was possible. Achieving this is a testimony to the gift God gave me. After writing it, I knew this song would be much bigger than me."
