Azel Panzer Dragoon RPG
The Japanese version wasn't expensive at all when I was in Tokyo in 2013, so I am lucky enough to own it. The polygons are not the most beautiful, but I love the art style, the language and wordl building. Really special game :) It was released in Japan in 1998 for the Sega Saturn.

A Saturn rpg I also drooled over as a kid was

Baroque
It got a PS2 and Wii release back in the day, but I never tried it.

I wish everything would be translated in the HD port. It wasn't, right?

Anyway, a lot of strategy rpgs have been shown, but not this one:

Zanma Chou Ougi Valhollian
Simulation - RPG game, published by KAMATA & PARTNERS, which was released in Japan in 1998 for the Sega Saturn. As far as I know never translated. I like the look of it :)
T-38201G_6,,Sega-Saturn-Screenshot-6-Zanma-Chou-Ougi-Valhollian-JPN.jpg
T-38201G_19,,Sega-Saturn-Screenshot-19-Zanma-Chou-Ougi-Valhollian-JPN.jpg
T-38201G_14,,Sega-Saturn-Screenshot-14-Zanma-Chou-Ougi-Valhollian-JPN.jpg

Oh dear! at the previous post :P

That Valhollian is like a Shining Force game and it's quite tough

Eiyuu Densetsu III / Legend of Heroes III - The White Witch

This game has been ported onto numerous consoles and Japanese pc's. Again the Saturn version has it's own unique version I think every port on different consoles has been unique

Albert Odyssey
One of the more traditional rpgs that were translated, it had beautiful 2d graphics in the super nintendo vein.

A traditional rpg in a similar that wasn't translated is

AnEarth Fantasy Stories ~The First Volume~
RPG game, published by MEDIAWORKS, which was released in Japan in 1997 for the Sega Saturn.

And another not-translated rpg

BackGuiner ~Yomigaeru Yuusha-tachi~ Kakusei-hen "Guiner Tensei"
SRPG, developed by Ving, which was released in Japan in 1998 for the Sega Saturn.

Langrisser III
SRPG developed by Career Soft / NCS (Nihon Computer System) Masaya and published by NCS (Nihon Computer System) Masaya, which was released in Japan in 1996 for the Sega Saturn. I tried one of the games in this series for psp, and I liked it. Sega Saturn had at least 3 of these. The character art is really great and very 90s manga style :)

The Story of Thor 2
I had this for the Saturn, and it looked even better than the first sega mega drive game. I loved the 2d art. It was named a bit different in the rest of the world. Released in 1996. I would call it a Zelda-like.

Yes I want you to continue posting, the Saturn was a console that I never even heard of before I was exposed to broadband internet and I don't recall ever seeing it in German retail so seeing all these games is fascinating to me :D

Good times, I owned up to 80 saturn games at some point. Mostly import. Some gems too like RSG, Princess Crown and even Final Fight Revenge lol.

Saturn has some stellar games, but most people never noticed. XvsSF on Saturn, well nothing came close to that when it released.

Like Square is releasing their Mana and Saga stuff, the world needs the translated Shining Force 3 trilogy on all systems.

Twin Peaks-style mystery and characters, unique tone and atmosphere and, even though I haven't played it in years, I think that the overall aesthetic has aged surprisingly well. The story goes full JRPG in the later parts of the game but it's still an extremely memorable experience IMO, I've never played anything like it. Definitely one of the best console-exclusive adventure games,

What an atmosphere that game has. One of my favourite Saturn games.
Ever played Kowloon's Gate or Hellnight on the PS1? Or Enemy Zero on Saturn/PC? Those games are other good offerings that have different gameplay systems from one another but have the same "weird and rather creepy CG" art style of that era. Hellnight/Dark Messiah was Europe and Japan only though and Kowloon's Gate is Japan only.

Love this game. Anyway, before ps2/wii remake (which i like pretty much unlike most fans, though i ONLY ever play in 1st person view and never in 3rd person), it had PS1 version that already had more features than Saturn original. Still, original is original, and also on Saturn they released promo-disc with some artworks, trailers etc.

One of my favorites is Darkstalkers II -

Nightwarriors was awesome. So many details and unique frames of animation! Only problem was that it moved too quickly for me to fully appreciate. I bought the GameFan strategy guide just so I could admire all the frames, like cursed/burned/electrocuted character states.

It also had an option to display the hitboxes. That was really cool and so ahead of its time!

a few months later after Cotton 2 came Cotton Boomerang which I think is even more rarer and costly.

Despite re using a lot of assets from the previous game it's a lot more crazier.

Cotton Boomerang is a masterful game.

The two Sakura Taisen/Wars games on Saturn left the biggest impression on me for the system. I was really getting into anime at the time, so they made me feel like I was playing one.

This isn't a game, but this was weird :):
T-25901H_1,,Sega-Saturn-Photo-1-Cleaning-Kit-for-Sega-Saturn-USA.jpg

And...

Habitat II
It was a Saturn based game client for Fujitsu's "Habitat II" virtual world which itself was a licensed version of Fujitsu's WorldsAway virtual world launched September 1995. The service was initially made available online to Windows users in March 1996 and 4 months later the Saturn client was released. It is reasonably likely that this would have been cross platform so Windows/Saturn users would be able to play on the same server. It is completely reliant on the Sega Saturn Modem due to the client/server relationship and thus cannot function in the modern age.

Anyway, back to games....

Sakura Taisen has been mentioned in this thread, but not shown. So let me start by... spinoffs!

Watching this thread i think that a lot of devs (mostly indies, i guess) try to replicate retro graphics and fail miserably. Just looking at some of the screens, i realize that there are so many art styles that devs don't seem to tackle and that look beautiful.

I agree with this. I'd love more "32-bit style" games to be released. There was an artistry there that seemed specific to that era and we don't see it much these days.

Dragon Ball Z Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu
Fighting 3D game, developed by TOSE Software and published by Bandai, which was released in Japan in 1996 for the Sega Saturn. It was released in France, and I remember it being fun, as it didn't feel like a standard fighting game. Parts of the story had special events if you followed the original story closely.
