ES South tops Stroudsburg, remains unbeaten in rifle

POCONO SUMMIT - Savannah Poveromo won the 100 back and swam legs on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams to lead PM West to a 109-61 victory over ES North in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference girls swimming Thursday.

In the boys meet, ES North won 92-75 over the Panthers behind victories in the 200 free and 500 free by Dominick Montante.

LOCK HAVEN - Junior forward Rasheed Moore had 19 points and 12 rebounds and redshirt senior guard Will Brown scored 17 points, lead East Stroudsburg University to a 102-84 win at Lock Haven in PSAC East men’s basketball on Wednesday night at Thomas Fieldhouse.

ESU (14-3, 10-3) won its eighth straight game overall and seventh straight against PSAC competition as the PSAC’s highest-scoring team (89.9 ppg) hit the 100-point mark for the fifth time this season.

The Warriors finished the game on a 21-7 run - including a 10-0 stretch in the final 1:17 to close it out - and held LHU scoreless (0-for-5, 2 turnovers) in the last 2:56.

Senior guard Jamal Nwaniemeka, senior forward Wes Cherry and freshman guard Nick Giordano scored 10 points each, sophomore guard Ryan Krawczeniuk had nine and junior forward Steve Harris had eight points for ESU.

Shawn Church scored 21 points (17 in the second half) and Brahieme Jackson had 18 and eight rebounds for Lock Haven (10-8, 6-8).

Moore had his third double-double of the season and ninth of his career for ESU, which is unbeaten since falling to Edinboro and Mercyhurst on December 4-5 at Koehler Fieldhouse.

He scored 13 of his 19 in the second half, helping ESU answer several Lock Haven runs after the Bald Eagles cut the lead to two possessions on several occasions.
