Biography: Leopoldo Galtieri was an Argentine soldier that was part of the military junta which ruled Argentina from 1979 to 1982. He was also President of Argentina from 1981 to 1982, a term usually regarded as a dictatorship.

Galtieri led the Argentine entry into the Falkland Islands, what would become the Falklands War when the United Kingdom retaliated. This invasion of what were known to Argentina as the Malvinas Islands was undertaken in part to defuse domestic discontent. This went poorly for the Argentine regime, with the British quickly retaking the islands. Galtieri resigned soon afterwards.
