ALBANY – Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, who along with his son is under federal investigation, said Wednesday he has no plans to step down from his powerful leadership post.

Skelos spoke for less than 30 seconds to reporters who staked him out for two days in his first return to the Capitol since the investigation became public last week.

“The inquiry continues and we are cooperating fully, that’s all I can talk about,” Skelos (R-Nassau County) said after leaving the Senate chamber.

He shook his head and gave a succinct “no” when asked about rumors he’s planning to step down.

And while he acknowledged that he has an attorney, he would not say who it is or how he is paying for it.

The New York Times reported the probe by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara is focused on a contract an Arizona company that employed Adam Skelos won from Nassau County despite not being the lowest bidder.

Nassau County Executive Ed Magano is a political ally of Dean Skelos.

The News reported that at least one person brought in by Bharara’s office was also asked extensively about the lobbying arm of Dean Skelos’ law firm and whether it has any interaction with the Senate majority leader.
